What questions would you like the Devs to answered
I want to know...

Pretty simple, what questions would you like to have answered about the next TES before it's released (or hopefully still in a phase where things CAN be done).

Now we should maybe leave 3 questions out of this:
-WILL there be a next TES ? Even if not officially confirmed there WILL be a next one, the series is just too popular not to continue.
-When will it come out ? Keeping a release date for such a game is nearly impossible so that question could be ignored as it will be false anyway.
-Where will it be set ? This is most likely the first question to be answered when the game is officially announced.

My personal questions would be:

-What will the Beast races, especially the Argonians, REALLY look like?:
After seeing how they designed them in Oblivion and keeping them a secret for so long I'd REALLY want to know what they look like in advance and NOT when the game already went gold what they look like, at an early phase it could at least still be POSSIBLE to do changes.
Though I guess that actually was one of the reasons why they kept them a secret for so long.
Oh yea, answering with "they'll look great" won't be acceptable, they said that about Oblivions design too...

-Will the lost weapons be brought back and skills regrouped?:
I'm not asking for "put the old skills back in", I rather want to know if they bring back the old weapons and try to group skills a more logical way.

-Will damage be location based instead of universal damage?:
Simple, will a hit in the foot have the same damage as a hit in the chest (as present so far) or will they go for locational damage/effects instead.

-How different will the world be?:
There was one speculation that the next game could be set 200 years after the Oblivion crisis, but even if that's not true some time will pass between the games.
How will the world have changed in that time?

-Necromancers, "always evil" or not?:
Will we see the necromancers as not "always evil" (and hopefully also not as "CLICHE evil") in the next game or will they go down the road of pretty much all necromancers in fantasy?

-Who will make the music and what do you aim for?:
My guess is it will still be Jeremy Soule but I'll leave that question open anyway.
More important, what WAY will they try to go with the music. Personally I hope they don't attempt "Big epic fantasy bombast" again or go for a more settled and "underlining" style instead.

-Will there be notable changes to how some systems in game work?:
Combat, alchemy, magic... will there be any notable changes to how they work and how you perform them? And what will the changes look like?

Those are the more urgent ones I can think of.
Hopefully Beth will be willing to do a Q&A round sometime in the future but not too late. They did give some interviews before Oblivion was released but sadly a lot of questions weren't really answered.

  • What is the skill list? How is speechcraft done?
  • Are there any new weapon types, such as crossbows?
  • Is there more hand-placed loot and rare items?
  • Do cities feel more alive?
  • How much better are animations and transitioning?

  • How much better are animations and transitioning?

These, coupled with:

Will full voice acting be used?
If so, how extensive will the dialogue system be? How many topics, on average, will NPCs have?
Roughly how many NPCs will be in the world?
How many factions are going to be present?
Will some of these factions be philosophically opposed, allowing the player to choose sides?
Will these be a simple one-on-one oppositions, or will they be multifaceted oppositions that involve large complex relations of groups?
On average, how many hand-placed objects are present in a 20x20 exterior cell grid?
Will occlusion culling be present in the game's engine?
Will cities revert to being completely open?
Will old spells return (like levitation, much of mysticism and alteration, etc)?
Will the game utilize a form of absolutist Fame/Infamy system, or will it allow the players to be judged by individual factions in the game?
How scripted will the quests be? Will journal pop-ups still be expected?
Will quests still rely on a quest-compass to guide the player to a goal, or will directions or information be provided via NPCs?
How "serious" will the game be, in mood and feel? Will complex and darker themes be explored and fleshed out?
How will the MQ start? Will it be something rushed and action-packed, or will it be a more gentle and nuanced opening?
Will level scaling be present within the game? On what NPCs and creatures will it apply?
Will leveled lists for creatures, NPC equipment, and loot be as totalitarian as Oblivion's? How will these lists be structured, and how much will they rely on level?
Will there be difficulty zoning utilized again in the world? Will there be regions that the new character really shouldn't just go wandering about?

Will we finally have an underwater city?

When can we travel the whole country again? Or do I have to go back to Arena for that?

Will we start out again as a prisoner again? I hope so, it's almost like tradition now. (yes I know Daggerfall you were not a criminal, but be stuck in the begining with only one way out, it was like escaping the sewers all over again.)

Will we be able to levitate again?

And will fast travel be back again? ( I can't understand why people complain about it, don't use it if you don't like it :) )

Also, will our horses have saddle bags on them, or be able to carry a cart like in Daggerfall to carry our equipment?

One final question, will we sink when we swim with Heavy Armour just like in Daggerfall?

Allow me to provide you an answer in the form of a question to the developers:

Is there going to be a return of RP-friendly, believable, and immersive travel methods such as sea-transport, caravans, Mages Guild teleportation, Mark/Recall spells, Intervention spells, and the like, and will they continue to provide a cost to travel, whether that be money or skill training/spell-points?

  • What engine will it use?
  • When is it coming?
  • Will it use euphoria?
  • will it use occlusion culling?
  • Will it stealth be more like the Thief games?
  • Will it have locational damage?
  • Will it have dynamic water? (eg ships create waves, player sinks if overencumbered etc...)
  • How much bigger will the gamespace be?

The first one's been answered by Pete: yes, there'll be another game. Dunno when.

My personal questions would be:

-What will the Beast races, especially the Argonians, REALLY look like?:
After seeing how they designed them in Oblivion and keeping them a secret for so long I'd REALLY want to know what they look like in advance and NOT when the game already went gold what they look like, at an early phase it could at least still be POSSIBLE to do changes.[/b]

I think they're pretty wise to avoid showing things until they're pretty much done. It's like watching someone sketch - I particularly remember Rolf Harris for this - where you really can't tell what it's finally going to look like until it's 99% finished. Plus it's not a democracy - they don't need our permission to make design changes, which would be pretty chaotic if they did, given our typical lack of agreement on these forums.

-Will damage be location based instead of universal damage?:
Simple, will a hit in the foot have the same damage as a hit in the chest (as present so far) or will they go for locational damage/effects instead.

Oooh - I'd love Fallout 3-style body part damage.

I hope Soule will return. I very much link him to the series.

I would like to ask them, "Why were you so lazy with Oblivion?"

:slap: That's not very nice.

What do you realistically expect them to say? "We worked our butts off doing 60-hour weeks on this for five years because we really couldn't be bothered"? Lazy developers churn out movie tie-ins in a year. I think every member here has criticised various aspects of Oblivion over the years (though most of us enjoyed it overall) - but I think very few people can look at a game of that scope and size and ambition and accuse the developers of being "lazy". The Little Britain game was lazy.

Great questions - except the last one. That would drive me to despair!

The "showing stuff early" actually SAVED the beast races in the past, as you may know they where originally NOT meant to be playable in Morrowind and where only re-added due to fan protest. And after seing how they turned out in Oblivion i'd really wish to see them in advance and have at least a POSSIBILITY to get something "better".

I'd rather do it that swimming and staying on the water surface simply uses more stamina if you're heavily loaded.

Oblivion was also my first The Elder Scrolls game. It was fun but it could have been so much better. They should have stuck with the lore. Princess Stomper, I'm sure that they did work very hard on Oblivion, but they left several things out of the game as well as taking many things away from the fans. It's almost as if they said, "You know what? I don't feel like putting as much effort into this game as I did with it's predecessor."

I don't know what fallout like cause I didn't play it
They should make the NPC die instantly when we shoot arrow in it's head

and I think that TES will be great if we can play multiplayer online or lan

And how do skills factor into those one-hit kills? What's the point in leveling up my marksman skill if I can just work the system (even with an aiming wobble) to get headshots all the time? Unbalancing. Very unbalancing.

Will we have more worldly interactions to do? By this, I mean things such as fishing, breaking things (such as doors, chests, or fine china), or (please oh God) climbing?

Up until now, I have felt rather limited in my options that don't have to deal with combat. I want to be able to climb the side of a house and enter through the window. If I bump into a vase like an idiot, it will fall, break, and alert the home owner. TES has always felt very restricted out of combat, where your only options are speaking to people, messing with items, or moving from A to B. What about forging my own weapons? Fishing for slaughter fish (which would also give fisherman characters something to ACTUALLY do)? I want to do more than kill things in the world. I want to interact with it.

Did anyone dress up TES style for Halloween ? What's the oddest idea that you've heard for a TES game that one of you guys thought up ? Is there any Easter Egg we don't know of in any TES game?
