As thanks for that, I have not read that yet that confirms my second assumption its a divine blessing by Akatosh.

I imagine the Nords would like to think that only another Nord would be Dragonborn. Much like the Dunmer of Morrowind probably wanted to believe that only a true, native born Dunmer could be the Nerevarine. Niether nessesarily works out that way.

I recall reading somewhere that the souls of the mortal races are not themselves race specific. A soul of an Argonian could reincarnate into a Breton and then into a Nord, ect ect. So being born with the soul of a dragon probably would require some godly intervention, so I'm inclined to believe the whole Chosen of Akatosh thing :P

Yep, but it disproves the heritage thing which was my point.

Interesting... That explains a lot if it's true!

Thanks for clearing that up, I thought heritage might be a part of it. I have that book you linked in my game but I just have not read it yet, thanks for that.

There is no canonical race for the hero in any of the main TES games.

No problem. And the book itself specify that because all Septim Emperors happened to be Dragonborn(and that lasted 400 years) it is a common misunderstanding that it is carried through families.

but the septims have no living heirs so dovahkiin cant be a descendent of them

Part of the premise of Oblivion was that Emperor Uriel VII had produced the bastard Martin. It's easily possible there were bastards that even he didn't know about or the descendents of another Emperor's bastard. These kind of things happened quite frequently when it comes to monarchs.

That is what I was thinking but I have never read that book before. The misconception is easy to fall unto what with the long bloodline of the Septim line and nothing was mentioned really about the nature if the dragonborn until that very book.

Bethesda haven't really defined the Dragonborn before Skyrim, so nothing unexspected. I just hope people will stop talking about the "dragonborn families/bloodlines" soon.

I hope more comes to light regarding the nature of the dragonborn.

I might have to mention that book you linked if I see another one of these threads.:)

Sounds like it could be a part of a DLC that continues the Main Quest, involving a excentric scholar and a secret plot against Akatosh :P

Some say that Tiber Septim is nord born in Atmora, some say he was just born somewhere in Tamriel and let's not even begin with how he became a god :smile:

All we know is, he's called The Stig.

I'm pretty sure, that the human races; Nord, imperial, breton, and redguard all have the same origins, most likely Nord-origins, as the oldest human societies were Nords. In the same manner, the mer races, High Elves, Dark Elves, Wood Elves, orcs, and Snow elves have the same origins. That said, there is no rule about which race is Dragonborn, as it is a gift from the gods (or whatever), and therefore lore-wise the race is irrelevant. Just like the race was irrelevant in Morrowind, even though Dark Elf made the most sense then.

Anyway, I've played Nord, Breton, Dark Elf, and Khajiit... But I just don't feel the Dovahkin-vibe from my Dark Elf and Khajiit, for some reason...

Nord = Atmoran
Imperial = Atmoran & Nedic
Redguard = Yokudan
Breton = Aldmer & Nedic
Orsimer, Altmer, Dunmer, Bosmer and Khajiit(Azura got involved) = Aldmer
Argonian = The Hist.

It was, but that has nothing to do with the character of Skyrim being Dragonborn.

Wait, wait, wait... really? The Book of the Dragonborn gives specific evidence that it is not hereditary and that it may not even be something you are born with, but a blessing you get at some point during your life.

read it again,

It ends with saying that it is both (inherited and bestowed) and neither or something along those lines.

The Dragonborn is a Thalmor Altmer :smile:

That would be very very scary

Becomes a thane of all holds
Becomes the Grandmaster of several guilds
Kills a very very VERY important person for the empire
The list goes on if the Dragonborn is a thalmor agent everyone should just lay down and prepare to be unmade.

It has to do with how any race can be Dragonborn, and how Tiber Septim's race doesn't really matter in terms of the line of emperors he started.

The present Dragonborn is a descendant of the reincarnated Nerevarine, an outsider, finally :cool:
The force is strong in his family of one, and already his predecessors in lore had problems to die good...
