What race will you play as?

Post » Thu Feb 17, 2011 5:37 am

Since we keep asking eachother the same questions over and over again about the game while nobody acctually knows anything about it i thought i'd ask something new and simple to spice things up again.

What race will you start Skyrim with and why? (could also add what you'll specialise in combat-wise)

Personally i'll be playing as a nord, not because Skyrim is the land of the nords but because i've always played as norse characters before. They're tall and tough like orks, but unlike orks they can look civilised.

I can't really say what i'll be using in combat yet though. Since i'll be a savage nord i'll probably be using sword/axe + shield combo, but that all greatly depends on what they did to the combat system. All i want is for it to resemble Dark Messiah's combat :(.

I'll be a female Breton conjurer, just because that's my favorite character to play in both Morrowind and Oblivion.

EDIT: That will just be my FIRST character, of course. Eventually I'd like to play through Skyrim with a character of each race/gender and come up with different, interesting builds for all of them.

Nord as well. I've never been a fan of the big and brawny, always preffered lithe and agile, ninja/stealth combat. But this is too good a chance to pass up. A brave Nord, defending his homeland. I'm looking forward to melee combat, maybe 1h+shield, or dual axes? Hmmm, much fun ahead! :hubbahubba: However, I generally play my main, as the race of the country the game is orientated (ie, Morrowind, Dunmer and Oblivion, Imperial). To me it just kinda fits the story more.

But yes, very excited to be a tough-as-nails nord, with super melee prowess and constitution. Also, someone naturally at home in the wild rugged realm of Skyrim. Huzzah!

My first impulse in Morrowind was to play as a male Nord, but by the time I started to take it seriously my character was a male Khajiit.

My first impulse in Oblivion was to play as a male Khajiit, but when my save file was deleted I started over as a female Dark Elf.

In Skyrim, I fully intend to model my character distinctly after TECHNOVIKING. There is just no other option.

I think I will go with heavyly armored nord warrior with longsword and shield or 2 handed battleaxe like I was in morrwind and oblivion.

My other character might be redguard assasin with bow and dual shortswords.

I'm (FINALLY) leaving my typical Redguard main, that I've had for all these years, and going to see how a Breton goes, since I've had such little experiences with them. He'll be a legend with a shortsword and a bow, having somewhat ignored his natural Arcane abilities, but he'll revert to them if necessary since he's naturally good at them.
I'm thinking using a bow most of the time, then in close range I don't want to use a shield for some reason this time, and will go with a shortsword with a spell in the other hand. EPIC :D

EDIT: Just realised how excited I am about the prospect. :) :) :)

Male Argonian, trained with daggers, short swords, illusion and restoration. Quick, agile, sneaky and lethal. He will be rarely seen as he favors the hoods and shadows. He sleeps the days and embrace the moonlight. He will delay the fate of the dragons until he will have plundered all the riches of the land. He doesn't speak so often, but when he does...

Male Dunmer. Why? Because they're the best :P Honestly though, I love their culture and believes (which my character will still follow dispite the Sundering) Specializations: Mix of Combat and Stealth. Sneak up and snipe em with my (cross)bow and then move in and slaughter the rest with my longsword.
He'll look just like Helseth and will be immortal, say 236 years old.
MORROWIND SPOILER:
Spoiler
Immortal because he's the Nerevarine

I can't remember my first Daggerfall character, but I've played a borderline psychotic Argonian (he's a member of House Telvanni, btw) mystic/lancer in Morrowind who were more than aware and happy that his role as the Nerevarine would bring more damnation than salvation to the Dunmer, and In Oblivion was a talkative, mild-mannered but yet again borderline psychotic Orc healer who's reason for joining the Dark Brotherhood clown troupe was "just for the lolz".

So to keep the tradition going, I'll roll yet another psychotic toon, though I'm still undecided whether to make a suicidal Redguard daredevil (read: barbarian), a wimpy, displaced Cyrodiilic Dunmer scout (or perhaps an agent) or the super awesome dual-shield wielding Bosmer battlemage.

Usually my first char is more like a tester, it's only the second or third that I play for hundreds of hours until I explore the entire game. I like the beast races, so one Khajiit and one Argonian are a must. The bow will be my main weapon on all the characters. One will be a pure thief/assassin, another will be a hunter, righteous good and defender of nature. That's in vanilla Skyrim. In about 2 years when the expansions are out and thousands of interesting mods come to maturity I'll probably play again, a heavily moded playthrough with a savior-type female paladin (Imperial or Nord) strong as a bulldozer but pure in heart.

I'm not really sure what race I will play as. I was originally thinking an Argonian, because I have two main Argonian characters on Morrowind and Oblivion, but I also love Nords, so I'm torn between the two. With a Nord, I will probably use a huge two-handed battle-axe, as an Argonian, I'll probably use dual-wielding swords. But overall, I just can't wait to play the game!

Probably going to be a Imperial as usual but I plan to use magic for once so I'll probably become a Brenton on my second playthrough I'll probably stay away from the elves

Except for the "why" part, this isn't new.

Breton.
Uses the Spellsword approach by using either a combination of spell and sword or dual-wielding two longswords. Main magic schools are Destruction and Alteration. Wears Light armor and compensates for the lack of protection with Alteration and Enchanting.

Why?
  • I love magic.
  • I like the "Spellsword" mix of mage and warrior.
  • Considering the two above, it's easy to see why I want a bonus to magicka without any weaknesses to go along with it. Traditionally, Bretons are the only race that have that combination of qualities. Moreso, they come with a whomping resistance to hostile magic, which is useful for any warrior. And Dragon Skin can be quite the life-saver, and will be very useful to fight dragons (ironic, isn't it? :) ).
  • It's the race I can relate to: neither tall nor beafy, but smart, able and resilliant.

Dark elf. Drizzt Do'urden probably has something to do with my choice. when i first played morrowind i was a dark elf, and same with oblivion. when i was playing Daggerfall i was 6 and i was mostly watching my brothers, but i bet i would of picked a dark elf then too.

I think it's kinda cool now that dunmer are kinda "endangered" and they don't really have a homeland. My dark elf will bring power and honor to his down-trotted race.

Relvain Lleondas, Male Dunmer, Ranger/Lore-Master. (Basically I think of him as a Tamrielic version of the Dúnedain.)
Assuming Daggers will be the main stealth attack melee weapon like they say (10x damage!) he'll use one whenever possible. When there are no shadows to lurk in near his target, he'll use his Bow to snipe them from a vantage point. If he's spotted he'll make use of his Longsword and knowledge of Destruction. After the fight if he has any wounds he'll heal himself using Alchemy. And finally if security is not merged with stealth as some believe, he'll use alteration to open secret places. Of course being learned in the lore he will collect any and all books he finds :read:
At the time that Skyrim takes place he will be roughly around three hundred years old. I used him in all numbered ES games. (Role-play wise I finished the main quests with him just so those events would take place in the game world *he* didn't actually do it. I have my *cannon* characters for that)

I'm thinking of playing as a Nord warrior/mage, since the game is set in Skyrim. But I would also like to play as a stealth character, since I did it in the last game and really enjoyed it. So I'm a bit on the fence on this one. Maybe I'll create 2 characters, one a Nord with whom I will complete the main quest and one a rogue with whom to do just the Thieves Guild quests.

Argonian assassin, most likely. Bow, daggers, swords, (thrown?), poison and hopefully some trap placing. This will be fun!

For the main quest: Imperial male, hunter, using a bow and shortsword. (probably do most of the side quests and fighters guild with this character as well)
Thief: female bosmer, using bow and dagger.
Assassin: Male redguard, dual daggers
Mage: Female breton (awesome spellcasters), probably without weapons, armor (enchanted or not) or staffs. Wearing a robe and use hands for spellcasting

Altmer or Breton, depending on the appearance. I'll be playing as a dual-ownage-pwnage-mage, so watch out!

First playthrough, Dunmer. I've got a long backstory worked out for him that dates back all the way to Morrowind (The game that is). He's not the Nerevarine or the saviour of Cyrodiil, just a mercenary who happened to be active in those areas at those times. With a few hundred years of experience under his belt he is ready for Skyrim.

Allthough, I might actually make an Orc first, depending on how they look. While my Dunmer is almost guaranteed as my first character, there's always a slim chance I'll change my mind at the last second.
