Just some one who explores but uses 1 handed and bows for defense.

I think people would enjoy the game more if they didnt look for the best. Just go with your personal preference. Elder Scrolls are the perfect kind of games to play it how YOU want. Just have fun with it.

In my opinion, a Dunmer. They are a jack of all trade type character and are good with bow, sword, and destruction.

They're all as good as one another. It purely depends on your aesthetic preference.

Breton can actually be very good for this - 25% magic resistance is always good to have, and with the dragonskin power you will be very resistant to enemy mages.

There is nothing about Bretons in skyrim that makes them more adapted to magic over anything else - starting skill bonuses rarely matter in the long ryn and you can play them however you like.

The differences are very minor this time. Just go with whichever race you like best or think would be best for your character lore-wise.

Edit: If you're going to choose based on starting powers anyway, I agree with the guy above me. I find myself having more trouble with mages than other enemies.

If you wanna go by lore Redguards are known to be big fans of sailing the high seas and exploring in general.

Nord has the best racial for an adventurer. They get a reduction to frost damage (main non standard damage type in Skyrim), and a bonus to all Melee weapons (max bonus on two handers, along wth bonuses to Smithing, Speech, and light armor). Battle cry is a decent ability for whenever your swarmed with enemies.
