What race do you find the most "Immersive?"

Post » Thu Apr 15, 2010 8:42 pm

Do you have a race that you find to be the most "immersive?" Maybe their background svcks you in, or a certain NPC of that race you identify with. Whatever the reason, is their a particular race in that puts your mind deeper into the Oblivion world?

The Altmer, I think they have just such a more... deep history, and I realize other races do aswell but people like the Imperials remind me too much of real life people. Along with the Bosmer, Redgaurds, and Bretons. Orcs are too overplayed in all RPGs, and Dark Elves seem too much to me like a stereotypical Drow Elf, am I missing any race?

For my personal play style, it's usually an Elf that gets me totally immersed. Usually Bosmer. While I like Altmer a lot and was the only character I finished the MQ with, visually speaking the Bosmer are more to my liking. I think because they tend to be smaller and in my mind, elves are a small/agile race.

It would be Dunmer for me. I've always been very drawn to the tribal Ashlander culture.

Khajjit as I really get into how they act and think, Raq'anar, S'krivva and all the others I can't really name one that is not a good Npc.
Their lore in the books dotted around tends to be very interesting to me, just makes me want to know more to be honest.

I would love to be able to play an Argonian, or Khajit but the special considerations needed to do them properly would be a distraction and spoil immersion, For that reason I stick with what I know; Breton.

For me, I think any of the following would be pretty immersive:

My current character is a Bosmer mystic archer and very close to the forest.

I would consider a Nordic shaman/priestess from one of the clans of Skyrim - also very close to nature.

For more urban purposes, I would consider a Breton courtier mage who flirts her way among the various noble courts of Cyrodiil.

Dark Elves, they just have kind of a mysterious feel to them. Plus the Dunmer is the only race I've beaten the game with so far.

Usually a Mer or a Khajiit. So Dunmer, Altmer and Khajiit, I would say. Dunmer because of their Morrowind background that makes it easier for me to understand them, Altmer because of their immersion into magic, perfect to play as a scholar, and Khajiit because I find them... fascinating and cute. And it became very much easier after the Elsweyr mod too.

Most immersive? Definitely all the human races. Male ones especially, I can't identify with female characters (considering Im not a female) and can't relate to something with a tail or pointy ears.

My personal fav. is Imperial though.

Personally, I'm far more intrigued by mer as far as lore goes. Especially Dunmer, but they all have epic backgrounds.

I do also love Argonian and Khajiit lore (though not as much). I get the feeling I'd also enjoy Nord lore too, it's just that I've not really delved into that too much.

When it comes to lore, I really can't say I prefer one over the other, as they're all so nice and well thought-out.

For the glory of Cyrodiil! Once, we Imperials were slaves to the foul and sadistic Ayleids, but no longer. With the favor of the Nine, we rose to defeat our former slavemasters and conquer Tamriel. Under the covenent formed between Al-Esh and our beloved patron Akatosh, we rose from nothing. By the glory of Shezarr and his avatar, Pelinal, sent unto us to assist us in eradicating the Mer who tormented us and by the glory of his companions, Al-Esh and Morihaus, our power and influence has spread to teach the savages of the other provinces some manners. By the divinity of Reman Cyrodiil in his noble birth and connection to the Chim-el Adabal, we also give thanks. From the historic text of Remanada, "And in the child's forehead was the Chim-el Adabal, alive with the dragon-fires of yore and divine promise, and none dared obstruct Sed-Yenna when she climbed the steps of White-Gold Tower to place the babe Reman on his Throne, where he spoke as an advlt, saying I AM CYRODIIL COME." Of course, last, but not least, the great Cyrodiilic hero known as Tiber Septim, founder of our glorious empire who, through apotheosis, rose to the rank of god and became the divine Talos, is also with us. Our enemies crumble at our feet. What reason do we, the chosen people of the Nine, have to fear the lesser peoples under our rule? For Cyrodiil, for the Imperials, and for the emperor, long live the empire! Arcta an bala av Cyrod!

Guess which race I picked.
