What rating should Bethesda aim for?

I want it to be T.

AO=pormography...

True. But can't a game get a rating of AO from violence, blood and gore -- without any six?

We don't have these AO things. really, there'd be no stigma in getting an 18 in Britain, its just America that seems to freak out over that sort of thing. I want the game to be mature, even if it doesn't actually get a Mature rating. Morrowind's a 12, after all.

If it gets me some realistic-looking magic-related deaths, I'll vote for anything.
I do not want dismemberment when using weapons (except maybe when using very heavy swords, hammers, or axes), mostly from magic as it is supposed to be very powerful.

AO shouldn't even be on the list. If a game is AO then it can't even be on consoles.

I don't see why that'd be a problem.... :P

Jokes aside, FO3 is proof that they can have financial success even with the M-rating, so hopefully that's what they'll aim for with TES5 as well. Rather than get the Mature rating just for gore overload, I'd like it to be 'earned' with quests that'd have very hard moral and ethical choices. As well as a branching mainquest that FINALLY would cater for evil characters as well. So what if I want to ally myself with the evil villain and rule the world - let me do that and have it be a non-canon ending (like the dark side ending in Jedi Knight), simple as that.

I want TES: V to have a M rating, in order, to not have the game developers' creativity restricted. Before I ramble on, lets look at what a game/movie has that deserves a M rating according to ESRB.

MATURE
Titles rated M (Mature) have content that may be suitable for persons ages 17 and older. Titles in this category may contain intense violence, blood and gore, sixual content and/or strong language.

So thus It is not about nudity or sixual innuendos. It is about including as many features as one can related to blood, violence, combat, gore, clothing, strong verbatim, et cetera. These stuff are what makes games more realistic in which we might feel we dwell in it after playing 10 minutes or more! If one was to make a movie and focus on the rating first, it'd limit how one would write the script. This is anologous to creating TES: V. It is more about which audience the game should aim for rather than the rating. The rating of TES: V should be the same as the previous versions only with more content. Bethseda wants TES games to be taken seriously for the gameplay features, content, leveling, quests, et cetera. So thus children who are 16 and below might not really appreciate the game to the fullest as us advlts.

Lol, my ten year old brother enjoyed oblivion, and then told me its stuipid that you can teleport between locations with fast travel xD, although I do not believe that he got most of the sublties of the storyline.

Im 16 myself, and voted for a M rating because I do not want the developers creativity restricted, though they shouldn't "aim" for a rating like others have said, for the same reasons. Im absolutly fine with gore and blood, yet exesive amounts for the sake of 13 year olds such as my other brother who just want the game just because they think is "cool" to be able to make peoples head explode is rather uneccersary lolz (omg boobies would be another reason they would buy it). I would like to be able to smash someones face in with a warhammer though ;P.

six and sixual induendoes.... should be tastefully done, yet there should also be that "shock factor" such as a group who traffic six slaves etc. Personaly I enjoyed playing the Witcher, where six is a minigame, and by doing cirtain things you can have six with that person, adding a "six card" to your collection. It wasn't walk up to them, say lets have six, and do it, etc lol rather it was part of the social interaction and it was always very possible to botch it fail utterly :P. Still, I didnt let either of my bros play that game, and cant see many parents liking that kind of influence on their children.

Basicly I want a realistic and advlt game, and whatever rating that takes ill happily accept ;).

T rating would be prefered.

M rating if they must though I would like that Bethesda would keep the six to a minimum as it doesn't really add to the game much and all is does is lower the amount of people who will buy the game. I would like a bit more gore in the new TES, but definitly not like Fallout/Gears Of War gore.

I would be happy with either T or M. I'm not terribly interested in the extra gore, nudity, and violence that would bump the game to an M rating (and the extra language doesn't really fit the setting), however I do think the extra freedom of the M rating is beneficial.

Sound logic. if you have to 'aim" for a rating, this is something to consider. But if they just make the game for it's own sake then let those bastards at the ESRB sort it out, that'll be best I think. Just make the game, don't try to cater to anyone, even us.

As for six and gore, that's all implementation. Tons of blood breaks the immersion, and six done without restraint or taste just looks like a gimmick to sell to horny teen boys.

I don't care honestly. I think ESRB ratings are the biggest biased [censored] ratings ever. Never even bothered to look at the age ratings when I was young, if I wanted a game, I'd get it.

18+

just for the artistic freedom that comes with it.

but really they shouldn't aim for any specific rating, they should just do what they feel is right, and then look at what rating fits the final product.

I think the Manhunt series got AO without any six involved. mostly banned in many other countries, and that is the tricky part, if it gets AO in America, it could be banned in many other countries.

I'm all for M :)

T would svck already... anything lower then that.... ew

They should keep the gore and anything else that comes along with an M rating at a medium level. Not overdone and not underdone....

AO would be overkill, and Teen (or less) will be horrible.

I think it should be M.

16+ (stop using the [censored] up American ratings as example - they svck of such epic proportions it isn't even funny).

There was enough violence and gore in Oblivion. Adding exploding heads and tons of blood like in Gears of War does nothing to make the game more deep or improve gaemplay.

However, drugs, alcohol, pissing, six etc. YES. We need that.

Morrowind did T quite well. Although I must admit using M gives you a bigger a bigger amount of options.
I despise the North-American public's hate of nudity. Quite stupid. Realistic violence would have to involve dismemberment... but I don't really like that.
A bit of artistic liberty is fine (like Jesus on the cross, hanging from his palms).

EDIT: But I'd love to see an E-rated Elder Scrolls game in some sort of alternate reality, made by another company.

I voted M!
Although I wish I voted Baby
I think that fallout three had just the right amount of blood and gore. Although I would like the people not to explode. So cutting off limbs would be nice.
I don't want as much swearing as fallout 3 though, oblivion isn't post-apocalyptic. I would like much more than oblivion though.
I want it to be a darker place too. Back allies with thieves, bars with drunks that attack you, and corrupt guards along with ones that will do anything to put you behind bars.
Also, I would like more political power. It would be AWESOME to be able to dethrone rulers, you know, like someone so powerful that they have more power in areas that kings/queens.
I would finally like the ability to threaten people!

I don't think Bethesda should aim for any particular rating. They should just make the game they want to make and let the ESRB give whatever rating they feel is appropriate. I absolutely hate the idea of making something, be it a game or a film, with a rating in mind.

M

If it's rated less than M, I probably won't buy it.

M-rating, it just gives more freedom to explore the grey and dark side of the world.

This Oblivion was too dubbed down and the only reason it got a M rating was that little "boob" file .

Advice, read this entire topic, it wasn't just the topless females in the early release, this incident caused the game raters to review the game again, the amount of gore in the game (mainly the deadlands) caused them to change the rating to an M, pods made of flesh, bloody grass, blood painted caverns, corpses hung from their heads, etc. just wasn't T material
