What should I get it for?

Obviously Fallout 3 looks better on PC but does it actually run better? or is it just a crappy port from consoles? Anyway would it be worth my time getting it for PC or would I be better off getting it on console?

Not sure about that -- it looks pretty damn amazing on our LG plasma off the XBox ;)

If you have the specs to run it on PC then I suppose you might as well. Personally I have never been one for PC gaming...don't have the patience.

Yeah Fallout 3 looks amazing on my xbox on my LCD, but then I bought a 'super computer" and Fallout 3 on that is unexplainable...

PC obviously, mods!!! The game is so much better with mods, not like ubering mods but like immersion and NMC's texture pack is Fallout 3 getting a new graphics engine.

I don't think I follow this logic. There is no need for extra patience for PC gaming. Not anymore patience than is needed for the base game on a console. If you mod, then you need to accept that you will have to learn the ins and outs of the process and may very well deal with less than perfect performance (less stability, crashes, etc are more frequent).

In answer to the original question, Fallout 3 and most games are not "crappy console ports" in the first place because they are developed for multiplatform (aside from the small percentage that get released to comsoles first and later offered on PC). After all, development normally takes place on workstation PCs of some kind.

It was more a personal comment than anything...mouse + keyboard seems more cumbersome to me than just sitting on my couch with a controller. I'd also have to find myself a computer with the specs to run it...I've got a Mac and we have a desktop that my husband tried to get Ubuntu to run on and couldn't ever get it going right. With the XBox, I just turn it on and the game (almost always) works without any extra effort on my part :D

If you can run it on PC, you owe it to yourself to get it for PC.

The modding community adds an incredible amount to the game. Modded FO3 for PC blows console FO3 out of the water; it's not even close. I'd never recommend buying a Bethesda game for console if you can get it for PC, the modding community makes some truly great mods.
