What should I get my friend for her birthday?

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 10:39 am

This is really good advice.

When in doubt, buy alcohol. When in doubt with underage people involved, go to the Body Shop.

(For my 16th birthday, my friends got me a turnip, a jar of pre-shelled snails and yeast... :P)

Lol it's as easy as buying a gift card but looks like you really tried. Alcohol is also really good advice, almost everyone loves it. It's nice to see your friends care so much about you :P

Buy her a new car, women love new cars! I honestly got a hug from my wife when I get her a new car, I kid you not!

Do you have any creative/arty skills? Since she likes video games and anime, maybe you could design her a digital art print of Briareos from Appleseed (or whatever, first anime related thing I could think of), or sketch her in as a warrior or mage in front of an Oblivion gate or something. Or make her some wirework jewellery, perhaps. Or write her a story.

Unique, personalised hand-crafted presents are ace, and are much more appreciated than shop-bought generic stuff.

If one friend gave me a copy of Dragon Age II, and the other gave me a drawing of me about to be brutalized by a dremora, I'd toss the drawing and play DAII all day. Just saying! :P

But I know what you mean. When you make stuff, it shows that you actually put your heart into it. But I would only recommend doing this with very close friends, family, or spouses / girlfriends / boyfriends.

Give her the game "Persona 3" for Playstation 2 if you can find it. Or possibly the game Okami, it′s quite nice and I can imagine a girl her age liking it.

If she′s not really that much into games but more into anime you can′t go wrong with some comedy, maybe you could buy the series "Azumanga Daioh" for her, it′s quite good.

Just for the sake of Akatosh, do not give her any of the following items: dumbbells, a roller pin, a vacuum cleaner, a mirror, a body scale or washing gloves. Keep those far away and you′re golden.

Azumanga Daioh...that show is amazing if you watch it drunk, it's completely mindblowing.

I recommended it also since while all the main characters are female none of them are actively looking for men like about 99% of female anime characters seem to be doing. Just comedy mixed with honest personalities.

And the music is simply awesome in Azumanga Daioh.

Ooh yeah, get her a cheap metal charm bracelet from Accessorize or something. Best to throw in some money too, it's a big birthday.

Body shop is like a free pass for any girl, I can't say for sure but a lot of my friends who are girls love getting it, and from other people too. Money can go so much worse, it shows you put in no effort.

I don't know, females I know swear by that kind of stuff. They get all smell pretty and what not. Of course, for all I know, they're just tramping about town. Or smelling good for their boyfriends. Whatever.

Like, a bracelet or necklace or something. If not that, perfume or like, a doll of her favorite anime character. Or maybe even a perfumed doll of her favorite anime character wearing a bracelet and / or necklace.

Can't go wrong with money.

Money, smelly stuff and jewelery are all easy outs. And the recipient knows it. If you know her and actually know stuff she likes (like gaming and anime) it's a total cop out to buy these things and shows a distinct lack of thought. :)

Yeah, your average girl probably does. But if she's a cute quirky anime loving gamer, there are so MANY other possibilities that smellies are a waste.

But if you can be more specific about what games and anime she's into I'll look more for you. Obviously all these things are bought online but quite a few can be bought in stores too.

If you care about her, buy her something that shows you listen to what she's saying.

A shirt that says: "I didn't know what to get you for your birthday so I asked some random people on a forum and they told me to get you this shirt" with a picture of the Fonz with his classic double thumbs up "Heeey" look

I'd wear it.

I think this post is a joke to make fun of us, how we as a community come to almost everyones aid when they need help for anything.

We actually are a tight nit community in where if someone is having a problem, we try to help them out. Yes we are pricks as well, but all in all, I think we are great to help anyone out in need, and with the lack of info here, I thing its' to make a joke on us, how we are so willing to help anyone out in need.

I really hope this is the case, but not seeing the OP come back yet, or I am too tired and I missed it, think it's a gag thread.

Sorry to disappoint you but this isn't a gag thread like the Suffca fan club. :P

Well the last game she bought was the new Mortal Kombat and I remember her talking about Persona. She's into shonen anime, so things like Bleach, Death Note, Black Butler, etc. Unfortunately, I have no artistic skill.

I was going to give her a Death Note but it just so happens that she received that last year on her birthday. :(
