What should I name my band?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 12:46 am

Mary Todd and the Jihad

Band names dont need to mean anything. Just something that sounds cool/unique/weird etc. Some of the best band names ever where nonsensical, or had no real meaning.

I'm not saying it has to mean something, but it should atleast reflect the band members in some way or the other.

For example the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus... They got their name by putting random words up on a wall, then throwing darts at it, naming themselves after the words they hit. Sure their name is meaningless, but that's a pretty unique way of naming your band.

Well, since hes here asking, obviously the band can't come up with anything. So here we are. Your above example just shows how the name doesnt have to have anything to do with the band at all.

How creative could a band possibly be if they can't think up a name for themselves?

What's next, we're going to have to help write the lyrics for the songs too? The band should come up with the name themselves. If they can't, then find a creative way to come up with the name for the band. Just my opinion though. :P

Having said that, I'd like to throw in the name Chocolate Thunder. I don't know why, I just like it.

Edit: No wait, I got a better one. Chaos Crew. It's catchy, right? :D

I hear the best way is to pick three of your favorite words in random order... such as Seventh Taco Button :-p

You shouldn't just give your band a random name a bunch of guys on the internet suggest, it should mean something. Or atleast have some sort of interesting backstory. Not "I didn't know what to name my band, so I asked a gaming forum to help me."

Cage the elephant coose thier name becuase some crazy person in the street started screaming it... (or was it a fortune teller, meh still weird people)

Krungthepmahanakonbowornratanakosinmahintarayudyayamahadiloponoparatanarajthaniburiromudomrajniwesmahasatarnamornpimarnavatarsatiksakattiyavisanukamphrasit

Just too see them pronounce it. Sre its alread a name in use, but still.

I made up about three different good ones just by looking at all the names given here, and mixing them up. Try doing that. At least the name will be a little original.

I really don't like Cpt. Eldrad and the Fishy Sticks. Sounds more like Ska, or some tree-hugging folksy group grab-assing tambourines in tie-die. Definitely not grunge.

There's one that always gets suggested, but it is not very grungy:

Astro Hitler and the Space Nazis

At first I hated it, but I've decided a band would have to be gimmicky to pull it off well.

And I'll suggest my favorite band name of all time (you can't have it): Famous Monsters

Grunge bands should have short punchy names. Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Mudhoney, etc.

Combine a word with another word.

Grindhouse
Cheeseball
Rumladder
Cratox
Beanjelly
Hudsvcker

Something like that.
