People are going to say "chaos" or "a force", but it's best to say he is the dark God who is the void. Too much potential in him being a sentient being to be thrown away as a force. Had six with a Dunmer babe too, supposedly.

Sithis is nothing, actually. The void. No "spirits" or "force".

Just literally nothing.

This. I suppose it's possibly he's sentient, but that's the less commonly accepted theory.

Sithis is confusing. I've heard him described as "nothing," "change," and "limitation."

All of those fit Sithis, really. Sithis imposes limitation upon potential, allowing for change into the various forms of the Grey Maybe, but is nothing without the things that it limits.

As for the questions of whether Sithis is intelligent, the Sithis of the Dark Brotherhood seems to be Lorkhanic death worship within a mephalan web.

Sithis is an eternal force of nothingness, which collided with an eternal force of somethingness which created or at least started the chain reaction that lead to the creation of all that we know now. Compare it to the big bang theory, you once had one mayor powerful force that combined the four important forces we know today, gravity, weak nuclear, strong nuclear & electromagnetism. This in like Anuiel a constant stagnant then came Sithis a force of change and he collided forcing gravity out of the equation. Destroying the super force and starting the chain reaction of creation.

Without Sithis there would be nothing like what we see today, but besides that first act it isn't really all that important anymore and certainly not a sentient being that has any influence on the world.

Sithis is part of the dual extremes is Is/Is Not that was necessary to create Maybe, which is to say existence as we see it in TES. Somehow his name has been taggeD on to an adolescent god of death and void and eeeeeeeeeeeeeevil! But all that's just a crock that, if we're lucky, is due to Mephalatrollin'.

We don't know what Sithis is, so feel free to misinterpret as you please. Those who hold that Mephala is trolling the Dark Brotherhood like to believe that he's an imaginary god who doesn't exist, those who choose to believe that the Dark Brotherhood knows what it's talking about believe that it's a manifestation of the Darkness that is Padhome, the Psijics believe that it's merely a corruption of their Psjjj abstraction, some hold that he's just another face of Lorkhan and others just say that the name refers to mindless nothingness.

Sithis is the time between Sun Rise and Sun set. He is the chill you feel down your spine. He is everything and nothing. His realm envelopes Aurbis, and is Aurbis.

Perhaps Sithis is the "Does God really exist?" of Tamriel, a world chockful of godcreatures

Whatever the case maybe, the Dark Brotherhood's Sithis isn't exactly the same thing as the cosmic, PSJJJJ Sithis.

Smart money says Lorkhan. The http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb57088/elderscrolls/images/3/3e/700889-sithis_super.jpg are http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/13986767/images/1298331523631.jpg, and that Dreadfather bit reads like Altmer doctrines with their moral values flipped around.
