What skills are for a true nord?

Post » Wed Nov 20, 2013 7:34 pm

So I haven't tried making a Nord since my first time playing Skyrim, but at the time I didn't really know what it was to be a "true nord". So now I want to try it out, but I don't know exactly what to do.

Should I go one-handed with a shield, or two-handed?

Enchanting, Smithing, or both?

Sneak or no sneak?

Etc, etc.

What skills should I solely focus on, and what skills should I develop on the side?

Also, in the morals of a true nord, should I help any Daedra? What guilds should I & should I not join? If I do help any Daedra/ Aedra, who should it be?

Thanks in advance :)

I guess it depends on what your definition of a 'True Nord' is.

I usually go with:
Heavy Armor
One Hander (sword or axe)
Block
Smithing
Restoration

I don't think Nords need skills: muscle and big hammers seem to be enough. Who else than a Nord would accept willingly becoming a werewolf, hey? :P

Archery- Nord Hero Bow
Speech- Because Nord Bards
Smithing- Only at the Skyforge
Unlimited Mead drinking ability
Alchemy- Make potions that restore stamina but slow the stamina regen (same effects as mead) and pretend it's some type of mead.

I'm going from stats on this one and a little bit of canon Nord as well. Nords statistically are better Sword and Shield Warriors over Two-Handed Warriors. The Nords also have a deep hatred and fear of anything Elven or Magic so I'm thinking the Nordic people would not have anything to do with Daedra or the College of Winterhold. The Companions are the only guild that the Nords like because it holds to the morals of glory, and honor. But this is how I suggest building a "True Nord" character.

1. One-Handed - Swords and Axes seem to fit this build better.

2. Block - Since Nords represent the Norse culture in the Elder Scrolls shields and axes are essential.

3. Light Armour - This fits the build a lot better than Heavy Armour because you can close in fast on your target and not drain all your stamina in combat.

4. Archery - Nords do a lot of hunting for there food so I would expect them to have some skill with a bow, you can dig into this skill if you want but I see it more as a secondary skill.

5. Sneak - I would only use sneaking when raiding a camp or stalking a deer so its not really a major skill but still fun to use at times.

6. Smiting - Now I don't use smiting because of my character Role-play I'm doing, but you can use this skill if you want.

If you have any more questions let me know and I hope this helps you out.

I chose 2-hand, archery, light armour, smithing.

If you need some more durability pick the lord stone. Also if doing the main quest, take "force without effort" because it helps with both your archery and 2 handed (I think).

As of TES 5 a generic Hollywood Viking stereotype.

Actually, speech is required by all Nords in order to persuade a stranger to get their axe back and kill that damned witch!

I recommend adding some Frost & Shock magic too.

Because, you know, style.

If swagger is the desired attribute, one only needs to go pick up Ahzidal's Boots of Waterwalking.

The people of Skyrim and Solstheim will be in awe.

Personally I like: very high stamina

1. Heavy armor
2. Either 2 handed or 1 handed with block.
3. Smithing

This makes up the core of my build

I then support with
Archery (crossbow)

Restoration

-One-Handed/two-handed[whatever your preference]

-Heavy Armor[Ancient Nord/Nordic Carved/Dragonplate]

-Block

-Conjuration

-Alteration

-Restoration

-Your draconic voice which Alduin, your father - praise be - blessed you with.

True Nords were philosopher-warriors who supplemented their natural melee prowess with the intrigues of the arcane. Fierce with an axe as they were with their mind, their intellectual curiosity, their eagerness to understand the forces around them, and the sciences of life. Blessed we were.

Do not look to the troglodytes of today, they are only Nord in appearance. Inside, they may as well be on the same level as Goblins... which would be an insult... to the Goblins...

Worship? Alduin, son of Akatosh. Chief of Divines - praise be. Werid kos. Alduin Thur.

Personally? I do not think that there is any set definition of a "true Nord" except that they never pass up a fight. So as long as you play a nord and are rowdy and get into every brawl you can find, you are a "true Nord."

I don't think they have that great speech, though.

I mean, they can be easily rejected and often times end up murdered for being the third Nord to ask a very paranoid adventurer the same request.

Not that I'd do anything like that. I don't think it's part of a conspiracy of Naked Nord con artists. No, sir, I don't. :ermm:
