What Skyrim Did -Right-

Post » Thu Jun 20, 2013 2:16 pm

There have been a lot of comments about things people didn't like in TESV. But what did you like?

I thought most of the Guild stories were top-notch (some could have been longer). DB really threw me for a loop.

I love crafting, dual-wielding (ESPECIALLY spells - brilliant!), and stealth - we're getting closer (almost there) to Thief.

I love the graphics. I wasn't sure about the washed out palette at first but I've become a big fan. The...sense...of the world is great. My favorite thing is just wandering Skyrim or Solstheim.

And the music. Sweet TALOS the music! I listen to the OST at work all the time.

So what do you think?

The biggest strength Skyrim has going for it in my eyes is in the exploration. That desire to keep playing just a little bit longer; just to map out one last cave or tower or village or mountain.

For me, some of the most memorable moments in Skyrim was not during the questing, nor the combat, nor the mechanics, but simply wandering in the wilderness. The quieter moments especially; listening to the music and just soaking in the atmosphere while the sun peeks over the horizon.

That is what Skyrim gets right.

IMHO.

I really like it as well, there are some very minor things I would request, but I still play it.

Its actually still in the top 5 most daily played games on Steam

Actually, I still haven't done a handful of quests, and regularly find stuff in the wilds

Of course the game world is mesmerizing.

Dark Brotherhood was good, just needed more creative contracts. Something it really missed. The new lore was a decent effort, although they should have made it a bit more consistent. Dragonborn DLC was extremely well done and the Vampire Lord/Werewolf transformations were a great addition with Dawnguard.

I think the leveling system was good but has room for improvement. Better skills, better perks.

Character creation was by far the best out of any TES game. The races all look good. The voice acting is decent, better than Oblivion. All NPC's had some semblance of personality which was good. As far as memorable NPC's, Skyrim with its add-ons has a good amount in my opinion.

The combat was the best in TES and I enjoy kill-cams. Dual wielding is legit. Magic aesthetic looks cool.

I liked the gameplay. Dual wielding, fast combat, awesome spell effects. A huge improvement over previous games. I am sad that they removed vast majority of spells from the previous games though (teleportation, levitation, open locks, waterwalking...)

I like how the races look. Orcs no longer look like Shrek's cousins for example.

I like the followers. It gets so lonely in morrowind and oblivion at times.

I like how varied the environments look compared to oblivion (still can't match morrowind though).

I love werewolves, though admittedly a mod for lunar transformations is a must.

I like the gory look. All the blood, decapitations .

I'm surprised to say that I really like the kill camera, even though when I first heard of it I feared it would break the immersion.

Love the new alchemy and crafting system.

All in all I think that every TES game does something better than any other games in the series so I can't really say which game is the best.

The personalities. Every NPC has something to say, not a copy/paste answer.

Combat. I think the combat is the most well done in the whole series IMO.

Atmosphere/nature. I love it when I am exploring I see wild animals doing their thing, and the sounds of the forests, mountains, etc.

Animations were much improved, as was general art direction.

Perks are welcome, especially from a modder's point of view.

Followers are nice to have around.

The added NPC activities (relaxing, working, etc.) are good for atmosphere.
