What if Skyrim wasn't crippled by the consoles?

Post » Mon Jul 08, 2013 9:43 pm

How many orders of magnitude would Skyrim have been better, if it were exclusively developed for the PC and therefore could take full advantage of it and wouldn't have been tremendously crippled and held back by the consoles that are running on hardware from EIGHT years ago?

If it were optimized for the modern PC, how many less bugs would the developers have had to fix and how much sooner would the game have been finished?

Thanks to the consoles, will we be fortunate enough to have something like this ouf-of-the-box by 2025?

Complaining, complaining, and complaining.

Are you bashing console users? Skyrim isn't super smooth on consoles but it still works.

Good thing you have access to mods.

Thanks to consoles, the game was developed and published in the first place, since they accounted for the majority of the sales.

And anyway, not everyone with a PC has a high end rig capable of running all the graphic enhancements at the same time :bonk:

It wouldn't be much different... they still had to meet the 11/11/11 deadline!

Where do you think the money comes from? Let's put it this way. I bought the 360 version on launch day and did not get the PC version until a year later, when I finally had a gaming rig. I'm all for consoles, heck, I support console versions. Daggerfall was PC only and that is possibly the buggiest TES game out there.

OP never once mentioned console users, I'm not saying I like what was said, simply pointing out that they were never mentioned.

...Oh yeah, and what everybody else said. Consoles are where the money is. Without them, Beth wouldn't be the company it is today, for better or for worse.

Having top-notch graphics and a good engine would mean absolutely nothing if the writing, gameplay and RPG elements aren't strong enough. Even if Skyrim was fully optimised exclusively for PC, it wouldn't change the fact that the gameplay isn't very deep.

Yes what if? It still would have 11.11.11

On pc you can mod most of the things you dont like anyway.

I'm as annoyed by tendentious complaining as anybody, but the point re: outdated console technology is a perfectly valid one. PC's are just better platforms, generally speaking, certainly a lot more flexible. Skyrim probably would be better were it designed mainly for the PC, like Morrowind.

With that said, Skyrim is immense just as it is.

I believe that if Skyrim was a PC exclusive release, it would propably have slightly higher resolution textures right out of the box (compared to the initial release) and a user interface, suited for a PC user.

The bugs however, would still be there.

Then its sales would have failed and a new TES would not exist

I like how the only differences being forecasted are the "graphics". As if consoles have unlimited processing power.

One of the more ridiculous assertions from a PC elitist. (yes, I know it's a cliché, but I think it truly applies here)

Its a buggy gane. They need a tesn thats dedicated to continue to work on bugs. I believe those bugs would exist regardless if it was a pc exclusive.

If you dont like the graphics cant you just buy a hdmi cord? It may not be as good as pc graphic mods but ill buy a 15$ cord over a 700 plus rig any day
