What specialization?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 4:39 pm

Well, I'm new here and I had already an idea for a nice topic to discuss this matter. I'm glad to have finally found a forum to discuss things about my favorite game of all time, Oblivion (together with Morrowind - of course) Don't mind my English, I'm training it. If you want to correct my spelling, grammar or something else: please, do. We learn by our mistakes, don't we?

Well, the question is: ''What specialization do you prefer?'' As we all know all of our characters have a specialization - or two - which they manage to handle very well. I made mixed options for people who like to mix things up a bit. (Combat/Stealth for example)

Every character I've ever made has been a caster.

90% have been pure Mages, the rest were Nightblade-esque.

Edit: How could I forget?! Welcome to the forums, Charlene, have a http://www.mwmythicmods.com/fishystick.jpg.

Edit the second: I voted Magic, if that wasn't clear.

Pure Magic for me please. Although I have made characters that use weapons they have all had at least 3 Magic Schools in their Majors so I'm always Magic based, and 7/10 times Breton aswell.

Welcome to the forums! :icecream:

Now, you must tell us what specialization YOU prefer.

My character's been with me for a very long time. She's a no-melee archer backed up by some magic (mostly illusion) and I call her a mystic archer. So, I voted magic/stealth.

I think I need a choice of "all of the above." I've made characters of all types. I do a lot of mages lately, and most of them are the sneaky sort. I've done thief-rogue types, too. But one of my all-time favorite characters was a Nord Barbarian who never used Sneak at all, and no magic other than alchemy.

Pure Mage and light armor melee combat/Archer ( I don't like running backwards and shooting so my Archer needs a blade to survive :toughninja: ) :hubbahubba:

I've done all except pure Stealth, which I tried, but it didn't work. Pure Mage can be done fairly easily. Combat is hard to keep "pure" as you need to heal and that requires at least potions, but limiting yourself to just potions you find can work out. But unless a Stealth character can start with 100% Chameleon, there's no way to avoid using magic or combat skills as well for defense. You also have to consider Alchemy a Sneaky skill to get much offense!

Well, the character I've got now - and I enjoy her far more than my previous ones - is a full mage. She loves her magical abilities and uses them whenever she can, especially to pull pranks. She's a little fifteen year old, playful girl, hehe!

Yes, this is an area where the changes from Morrowind to Oblivion resulted in less choice. In Morrowind, we had Short Blade, a Stealth skill, so it was possible to have a viable pure Stealth character.

As for the healing issue, it's always possible to simply rest until one has healed, and not use any skill for that process at all.

I find that opponents don't accept "Hold on, it's time for my nap" in the middle of battle, so having a found potion in inventory allows me to survive until I can rest. But in between, that's exactly what I do. It's usually an issue only early on, when a character has little health, and little defense at the same time.

I, or rather my Dunmer, has three specializations actually. Combat/magic/stealth. But since magic is so much more interesting I chose magic/stealth. I never give up stealh, that′s for sure :ninja:

As said, welcome to the forums and have your very own http://images.uesp.net//c/c4/Fishystick.jpg

By the way your English is fine :)

I'm only saying Combat/Magic because I like to summon people, I don't really use any other kind of magic all that much. Unless kicking ass is a type of magic :hubbahubba:

I like the Combat/Magic combination as I often play a Paladin-ish type of class, and occasionally Battlemages.

Welcome my friend.

I nearly always like to play with combat\magic and sometimes a bit of stealth thrown in as well.

I voted Combat/Stealth yesterday, I play characters who use Archery, then switch to Melee at the last second to fight. Some of my characters only use Alchemy and/or Restoration, but I do not consider Alchemy and Restoration as Mage skills.
I also view a thief who uses Illusion and/or Alteration as a Stealth character. I consider my characters who use spells cast as arrows to be Combat/Stealth/Mages.

I classify any character with 3 or more of their Majors to be Magic based unless the other 4 Majors all fall under either Stealth or Combat based skills. I've always picked the specialization to go with which ever of the 3 have the most Majors. However normally Magic based skills normally in through for me.

It's interesting how out of 17 people who voted in the poll up until now only 2 didn't pick an option that includes magic. As for me, I voted magic/stealth. I love magic most of all, but sneaking about is also great fun.

I'd probably file that under stealth/magic instead (I'm assuming that the first one is the main focus).

I voted Magic/Combat.
While have played all kinds of varieties, I find that I like to play aggressive spellcasters the best.

That stands to reason, really. The Elder Scrolls games have always had a strong magical bias. It's virtually impossible to play Oblivion without using magic in some form. The only exception to that, in my opinion, would be to play a purely combat character or a combat/stealth hybrid (using "rest" to restore health, as we talked about above), and that's only possible at a fairly low difficulty setting.

Magic/Stealth for me, after trying some "pure" builds and many mutant combos. Archery, Destruction and Illusion are my favorite things to mess around with.

I have a pure Dunmer Warrior(I heal with the Lord sign) and it isn't very powerful. A pure warrior in OB is quite weak in fact, comparred too most others. Sry for going off topic. Still vote for Combat/Magic.

Most of my characters are magic based, but I do love me some stealth, I have never really cared to
much for a straight combat character seeing as how I have only ever had 1 or 2 of them.

Personally, magic, with hand to hand and blade thrown in, but no votes for magic/stealth? Do none of you thieves use illusion, or assassins destruction?

Oh, I just noticed stealth/magic and magic/stealth, ignore my ignorant ramblings.
