You and Seti are the only ones who are buying for PS3? Anything wrong with the console, or are people just cheap and go for the Xbox like i did?
And buying it twice? We need more people like you to support our games :goodjob:
I generally don't buy for the PS3 unless it's an exclusive because, frankly, the PS3's online service is terrible. I don't mind paying a few bucks a month for a well-designed and well-supported online service like Xbox Live, but PSN's mostly free model simply makes it impossible for them to support the basic things I want out of an online service. Namely, high-quality voice chat, cross-game chat, party-chat (still cross-game), and a trophy system that doesn't force me to wait for it to sync every time I want to use it. I mean, some things have been improved upon with PS Plus, but much like an MMO, I only have room in my life for one subscription online gaming service, and XBL is still the better option - even when considering PS Plus as an option.
Essentially: I'm a very social gamer by default, and I also like kicking back and relaxing when I'm gaming, so the two of those things together makes me naturally biased towards console games. Consoles are simply more accessible gaming systems to most people, so it's easier to get in touch with and play games with my friends using the console than it is the PC. I'm sure if my friends preferred the PC, it'd be a different story, but that's the way it is. The PC comes in a close second because I love modding games, especially expansive games like Elder Scrolls titles, and you can't really get that experience anywhere else. The PS3 is there to play PS3 exclusives and Blu-rays. That's about it, really.
Now THAT is a good enough reason, I just get fed up with people assuming PC gaming is about sitting at a desk, because it isn't. I actually watch telly from my PC (from the sofa) and my PC goes through my home cinema surround sound, so that reason doesn't cut it with me either. I think we're moving away from the days of having separate systems for telly and PC, mine is completely integrated and I can't see any reason (other than the cheap purchase price, and a couple of exclusive game releases) to use a console - because they can't do anything that I can't do on my PC.
I do the same. My PC plays HD video through HDMI to my main HDTV, and that's how I consume 99% of my video media. Tonight (the VGAs) was the first time I've watched actual low-def TV, with commercials etc, in months.
