What is Ma'iq?

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 11:58 am

This question have probably been asked already, but still

I wonder, what is Ma'iq the Liar?
I know hes a khajiit, but how come he survives all these years? From Morrowind to Skyrim, hes still alive. Is he a daedra? Or, since he looks different in each game, is it different khajiits who takes up the identity as Ma'iq? If some1 knows, please let me know c:

Walk like M'aiq until M'aiq walks like you

When Masser is in the Sixth House
And Akatosh aligns with Stendarr
Then sugar will milk the earthbones
And CHIM will steer the stars

or something.
Aha, it's gonna be like Lee Falk's Phantom (you know. Billy Zane in a purple tightsuit)
Brave noble Khajiity cats mantling their hero, breaking the Godhead's fourth wall.

M'aiq's father was also called M'aiq. As was M'aiq's father's father. At least, thats what he said.

- Quite from Skyrim

Yeah, so they probably aren't the same person. But just generations after generations.

ha, we're coming up with logical explanations for his *age*, but not his knowledge?

Were there any M'aiq-CHIM jokes yet? I assume, like in Highlander, once you get the Prize, you know everything

His father passed on the heritage to his son and so on so forth.

"People expect great things from you Maiq and from your son?"

"Like what, father Maiq?"

"To lie and make people realize they cannot get what they want. So you can remind them of it."

M'Aiq has a child named M'aiq, who has a child named M'aiq. Of all things M'Aiq taught his child, proper spelling of his name was not one of them.

I am definitely making a Khajiit named M'aiq the Liar next play through. Then i will carry on the lineage. Maybe i'll have to kill the real M'aiq then. "There can only be one!!!" no?

Just because M'Aiq says that his father was named M'Aiq, does not mean he was. Why would you believe what M'Aiq says? He knows much, tells some.

M'Aiq saying he had a father named M'Aiq is like Batman saying he knows a guy named Bruce Wayne.

My theory: M'Aiq either has CHIM, or is the main personification of the Godhead. His compulsive lying & other psychoses are the cause of all the weird things in the game. Why does the magic system keep changing? He can't keep his stories straight. Why are there no bathrooms or nudity? He's a bit of a prude (only allows himself on the island of naked ladies once a year).

However, that's a terrible theory, and way too meta-gamey to normally suit my tastes.

Proof positive M'aiq's a well of infinite knowledge and we should all take in what he has to say. Spoilered because of it's mind-blowing ramifications:

Spoiler
"M'aiq saw a mudcrab the other day. Horrible creatures."
(yes, he said (something close to) this to me)

I'm not sure I consider M'aiq to be part of the actual lore. To me, he's an easter egg.

I nearly killed poor M'aiq as he was accidentally part of a train of enemies that included two bandits, a wolf, and a spriggan. I did manage to stop before he lost all his health and heal him back up. Unfortunately, he only told me a few things, and then said he was too tired to keep talking. I last saw him in Journeymen's Nook.

It's obviously the creative/moral outlet of Todd Howard, counterbalancing all the marketing lies he has to announce for your average multiplatform AAA title.

I found Miaq to be less than humerous and more insulting. He's obviously the Daedric God of tackiness.

I like to think he's the Tom Bombadil of TES.
M'aiq is... M'aiq. Nothing more, nothing less.

M'Aiq knows much, tells some. M'Aiq has CHIM. M'Aiq gave Vivec CHIM. M'Aiq told some that day.
