Well, the best thing to do to throw off the trail would be to be the first to bring it up, therefore it is Starwulf!

Of course it could be said that by me saying this, I could just be getting you all to not think it's be... but I proudly have no Facebook account in fear of countless family members trying to friend me ^_^

Thankfully, I'm a hermit, and have no facebook, myspace, twitter, or anything like that.

Lol...

First of all, them having your IP address mean's absolutely nothing. I can find any single persons IP on this website, simply by downloading a free tool.
Secondly, if they did have some knowledge outside of "google", then they wouldn't be messing with you. My "college level course" classmates go above and beyond what this type of thing is, and we are only second year lol.
This basically leads me to believe you're really not in any "real danger.".

Unless of course he is sitting outside your place, running wireshark to intercept packets being sent to your network. In which case, I hope you don't use wireless with WEP encryption, or odd's are he's got all the information in your cache, which could include bank statements, documents, legal records, etc.

This is of course, if you have a wireless router running WEP encryption.

Otherwise it's some kid who found "How to trick people into thinking you know who they are" google trick which can be done in like, 12 minutes.

...do a full systems scan...

Yeah like that'll help.

This is the classic example of tracing. No amount of system scanning will prevent that from being possible. If you want to use sites with wonderful (!) privacy policies like Facebook and not be a victim of this I suggest you use http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tor_%28anonymity_network%29 (or something similar), though that still does make the connection a bit sluggish for obvious reasons.

edit:

If I don't want you to, you won't be able to find out mine, that's for sure.

Let me guess::

1) Your IP is going through a separate server or network to pick up a fake IP address.

or

2)Your IP has a small life-span on the issued IP addresses, so anytime you relog your computer, you usually get reissued the next-in-line IP?

So someone just friended me on Facebook and told me they "What up from the TES boards" and then later said "you didn't even acknowledge my 1337 backtracing"

What is that? And how did they find me on Facebook, I don't think I ever said my real name on this site? I need a tin foil hat.

On your profile you have your age, where you live, your gamertag, gender, birthday, and interests. You're wondering how this person found you?

EDIT: No, it's not me either I don't even really add acquaintances (yes I'm one of those people who only friend people who are actually friends or used to be or whatever) I especially wouldn't add a stranger.

Now this would impress me. I know of several methods to find IP addresses of users on a specific page... but what you are describing seems a little far-fetched, from what I know of client-server connections. Mind sending me a PM with the details?

WEP encryption = bad. WPA 1 / 2 = better. If you're really concerned about someone sniffing your packets (wow...) use something along the lines of TOR.

Indeed. Confronting someone like that is typically the fastest way to disarm them and get them to go away. Or, you know, blocking them works too. :P

Just change filenames before posting pictures here. And wipe EXIF data if it was taken with a cell phone with GPS. It's really not that hard. No one is tracing IPs to find your facebook.

i hate being forced to use facebook but its very convenient for family and friends abroad. i always reject those game and app petitions because for some reason they all want access to your private info. hell no.

And, since you're clearly not understanding how they found your facebook, here's how:

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1086664-bsf-picture-thread/page__view__findpost__p__15906127

That's your post in the picture thread, which links to a picture with a facebook filename, which contains your facebook ID.

Filename:
12328_117559978266555_100000376607741_176052_2990828_n.jpg

OMg, I just changed a lot of passwords, but what was weird was after I made this thread. I went to Facebook and saw I had a new message. It said "why do you have to be like this" and then the person linked to THIS thread!

Maybe you should have, I dunno, blocked/reported that person? Just sayin...

Both. Actually the 1) is a bit incorrect, but close enough.

Please elaborate?

My Facebook is pretty safe. No personal information, not even my name or anything. No-one that is not my friend can see anything. I hate that there are photos of me, uploaded by others, however. If I didn't use it to keep in contact with people I would delete it. Unfortunately, I cannot call anyone because either they're on a different phone network or don't have a landline or wouldn't be home anyway.

Facebook makes me nervous. Angry and nervous.

You can remove your name from any photo even if it was uploaded by another person, you just can't remove the photo itself. Just click on the photo and next to your name there should be an option to remove it.
