What is...?

Post » Sun Feb 20, 2011 5:55 pm

So someone just friended me on Facebook and told me they "What up from the TES boards" and then later said "you didn't even acknowledge my 1337 backtracing"

What is that? And how did they find me on Facebook, I don't think I ever said my real name on this site? I need a tin foil hat.

They probably traced your IP address.

And if that's the case, STAY AWAY if you don't know them. Engaging them in any form of communication will only encourage them, and may cause hacking attempts on your computer... or worse.

Which may have already happened. I would say block them, do a full systems scan and then probably change some key passwords just to be safe.

Also, have you cosigned in with facebook login here? I see it's silly symbol here. Or is this one of Facebook's great privacy ideas

You might want to check your facebook settings for apps and internet connections. I have all of mine turned off so I don[t unknowingly divulge info to others or other websites

OMg, I just changed a lot of passwords, but what was weird was after I made this thread. I went to Facebook and saw I had a new message. It said "why do you have to be like this" and then the person linked to THIS thread!

Most likely from a photo you posted. If you've ever downloaded a photo off of facebook to post here (or anywhere on the internet) without changing the filename, anyone can find your facebook profile using the numbers in the filename.

Off topic, but Am I the only one who got What is Love stuck in their head from the title?

And back on topic, that's some pretty crazy stuff, never had anything that creepy happen to me when it comes to facebook.

Unless they are a moderator, they can't get your IP address from this forum.

The Internet is not like what they show on TV. You can't just say some gibberish, throw down some random commands into the command prompt, and hack your way into your neighbor's bank account and get the IP address of some random guy on some random Internet Forum who you've never connected to elsewhere.

You gave out your full birthdate, gamertag, and the city you are living in. With that much information, a determined person could track you down.

This.

Changing passwords won't change anything (and really, password changing wouldn't have prevented this at all) when all that sort of information is given out (and, to be fair, I provide that same amount of information, but I have no qualms regarding someone contacting me).

Wouldn't this be resolved if you told us the name of the person talking to you on facebook? Unless the made a facebook account to do this.

This would obviously be resolved by the OP blocking the guy on Facebook, and possibly on the forums.
