What technology would you like to see next?

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 9:45 pm

I like reading about todays scientific discoveries, ideas and prototypes, I also have a lot physics knowledge taken from college. It's not hard to guess, that one of my favourite things in Fallout series are technologies based on present ideas. There is something magic about venturing into a vault and recovering piece of pre-war technology like an ancient artifact (which it is ). I assure you, it's even more awesome, when you know, that this weapon (for example) is based on real-life prototype, and you know how it works exactly. Some weapons of course are strange, like plasma weapons, but it doesn't matter, as long as I get weapons like LAER (Laser Assisted Electric Rifle) in my hands. I was overjoyed by OWB.

So far Fallout series included burst lasers, magnetic accelerated (?) plasma projecticles, Gauss' technology, some kind of impossible Tesla coils, sonic waves, mentioned LAER and of course electromagnetic pulse. It's suprising, that most of weapon designs are fairly accurate, considering how they could be developed in the future. Their performance in-game is a bit different matter (i.e. laster-desintegrators or lasers and plasma not dealing fire damage), maybe because devs aren't able to spend more time working on energy weapons, also most of them would be terribly overpowered.

Are any other energy weapons fans out here? What new technologies would you like to see next? IMO shaulder-mounted railgun, some kind of chemical weapon and more Tesla weapons (greandes!) would be great additions, although first one could be too powerfull, if compared to others.

six bot has already been done. In New Vegas you find a Protectotron named Fisto, who's programmed for six.

I could see a more helicopter-ish vehicle, rather then Vertibirds.

This is because a lot of the technology in the Fallout series is based on SCIENCE! rather than science. The weapons that seem to be nonsensical in real life today (like plasma rifles) are weapons that would have been sensible in a 1950's comic book or Sci-Fi film. It's part of the retro-futuristic style of Fallout.

As for what I would like to see in the future, I wouldn't mind http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/YK42B_pulse_rifle_(Fallout_2) returning. I would also like to see tesla technology expanded on (maybe a tesla rifle?) and some more cryo weapons (a cryo version of the flamer, cryo revolver, cryo rifle)

I was actually thinking the same. It would be cool to have some electric-type gun, that wasn't just a re-skinned laser pistol. And could possibly kill on the highest levels. (Some sort of dial or switch to choose from stun/kill.)

new series of Wattz weapons.

First they need to actually bring the originals back.

along with some new ones.

A new series of Gauss weaponry; Gauss Pistol, Gauss Rifle and a shoulder-mounted Gauss Cannon. They would properly use 2mm EC (or similar) rounds and not MFCs with an infinite clip for the ammunition

I too would also like to see a new series (or return) of Wattz laser weapons and new types of Tesla or electric-based weapons.

And while not energy-based I'd like to see something of a gas-powered flechette driver. Essentially a glorified nail gun it would be highly accurate, have great armor-piercing capabilities and high crtitcal chance to boot. Different types of flechette ammo could be standard AP and explosive-tipped rounds. If you've played the F.E.A.R. series all three had this type of weapon. And yes enemies or body parts should get pinned to walls....I missed the Railway Rifle in NV :(

SCIENCE and industry working together, men with screwdrivers turning things, ah i love mystery science theatre, but really is there much they havent added other than actually being able to drive or fly, or burrow undergound, or travel with your small companions to destroy a ring in a large volcano. The add ons to new vegas introduced a ton of stuff, short of really going overboard, they should stick with the concepts of the imaginary 1950's idea of scientific advancement, but theres still no rocket packs, why no rocket pack because i want one, rocket ncr ranger, or my own robot companion named george. They left a door open for technology in FO 3 with the point lookout add on and the ghouls quest, and even the subtle hints he gives leads you to beleive that theres amazingly high levels of technology beyond your wildest dreams, but still no rocket packs. Id still love to just be able to scrounge enough parts from the wreck in the wastelands to get one vehicle going.

A gamma wave gun would be soooooo badass. In the universe, a gamma wave burst is so powerful, it is second only to the big bang. Imagine that in Fallour

I could see Fallout with a sort of landspeeder type of craft, sort of like Jak since that's also dystopian.

If they make the map bigger (distances between locations are already short enough) I want some kind of drivable vehicle.

Well if vehicles (of sorts) were introduced into an upcoming Fallout game, I could imagine there being all kinds of new or larger scaled weapons introduced along with them.

Unless the game world is at minimum twice as big as Capital Wasteland then it wouldn't be a good idea.
Cause vehicles are fast, we'd be able to cross the map in 5 minutes.

More seriously, I'd like to see cyberzombies. Bodies of soldiers so loaded up with cybernetics that their corpses keep fighting centuries after death. The Y-17 Trauma Harness is close, though.

I want to use a bow. They are quiet, yet pretty powerful depending on how they are used (they could be made with lazers in a SCIENCE! type of way.) yet, they are not guns or melee weapons either.

A Wattz 2000 and more scope options like the ability to mod one with infrared/night vision and adjustable zoom. When I saw things like that in Project Nevada I wanted them so badly on my Xbox.
