Why? It hasn't failed me yet. Some people just feel they need to cry OP or UP for any class they don't succeed at.

Because the Templar debate isn't really a debate as it has been shown via in game numbers and performance that mages are better healers due in large part to their mana conservation and regen.

Sure an excellent player can make a temp work (my chosen class btw) but I'd be better off and produce better results with a mage based on real world (game) proof.

So paint away but without knowing what is actually being discussed you just look silly. ;)

Not bad, but against seasoned players he'll get blocked a lot and also his opener isn't huge. I don't even see Snipe or the Snipe morphs on his bar.

Also, until they fix it, armor does nothing in this game. Resistances are a different story.

I would say templars survive! I saw some high rank templars in PVP on the PTS server and they were almost impossible to kill

There's an old adage from the days when we played as a mage, fighter or rogue where peeps argued that the fighter would own the rogue every day of the week and twice on Sundays. The rogue would counter with, "Perhaps, but I would get to decide if and when that fight would actually take place."

The same can really be said by every class. I've seen some NB's that were pretty tough as well.

Real world lol. That mage would be at my templar's feet, but you continue to speculate.

His "speculation" about sorcs is actually true. Sorcs make better healers than Templars for the simple fact that they handle magicka way better, and this is before Templars got slapped around by ZOS in this last patch.

I don't know... I wanted to make a templar healer, but they got nerfed... I'll still try a templar healer; I've never let the internet tell me what to do. But if templar healer ends up being bad or boring to play, I considered making one that would be a melee DPS with magicka support abilities, like buffs and stuff like that, but then, templars dont really have a bunch of support stuff. So really, for now, I don't think templars do anything best. I'll still make one though.

templar makes a damn good melee fighter with charge and heal in their class skills, they can use any weapon and gap close, and can heal themselves without taking up an action bar with a resto staff. they are really really good, why do you think zos keeps nerfing them lol.

Considering the first 30 days for me is going to be massive exploration, crafting, and just generally avoiding a rush to max level I'm going to stick with my gut on my templar and assume that one of the first balancing acts will be to return some of what templars lost. I might end up being wrong, but as long as I'm having fun I'll survive.

Touché. With such a well thought out and fact laden response you put all the hard numbers, reproduced results and even the comments from the devs about the Templars still being looked at for balance purposes to shame.

Well done. :)

That aside once the devs do finish balancing the class they have something no other class really has. The ability to heal on the fly without using a resto staff.

This gives them more options for builds but that utility comes at a price. CC which is really something a full on tank needs.

I think for pve your best class for most healing situations is the mage. A mage speced for it can also rival a DK for tankage. Not sure if this is still true following the last patch though.

Dps everyone is pretty much on the same lvl depending mostly on magika mgmt since class skills pack more punch.

Complaining about his poor magicka regen. :D

Seriously, they need some love in this department.

Wow.

Templars are fine, what's with the QQ? I'm not noticing a difference at all on the PTS.

I'm not sure if you noticed the part in my OP when I said this is not a whine, that I was asking for help, and for actual build advice. But since you're here, maybe you can answer some of the questions I posed to start the thread:

1. What is the Templar best at?

2. How can I build one to be useful in PvE, and how can I build one to be useful in PvP?

I'm looking for actual build advice, so if you can please provide actual builds and answers to the questions, rather than just ignoring the questions by saying 'Templars are fine', I would really appreciate it.

I wasn't talking to you.

If you want my build for a templar, look here, as I made a gigantic thread about it with three of my templar builds:
