What TES World will it be set in?

Post » Thu Nov 11, 2010 12:05 pm

The Biggest Difference between Morrowind and Oblivion was the shift in the setting, It felt almost as if Oblivion rather than being set in the same universe as Morrowind was in the world of a computer game made by someone living in Morrowind, as the amount of simplifications were about the same. From an Empire on the brink of collapse and awash with rumours of false heirs and corruption only held together by expert political manoeuvring and conspiracies and a vast web of spies and agents and financial interests, which made a point of good and evil being points of view. To Oblivion, which is entirely good vs. evil. insane black robed necromancies, mad cults and an invasion of demons.Everyone loves the Emperor, House Dres is voluntarily abolishing slavery the Imperial Province is more sparsely population and undeveloped as the most uninhabitable corner of vvardenfell, the blades transformed into shinning knights and the general population turned happy, trouble-free and deeply generic.
So that the thousand improvements in the mechanics, graphics and especially interface in Oblivion, were wasted on a game with none of the elements that guaranteed the unlimited replayability of Morrowind. No doubt Skyrim will be even better than Oblivion, but will it combine those steps forward with the same steps back?

I'm not exactly sure what you're saying, but I think I disagree.

At any rate, Oblivion shouldn't be compared to Morrowind. Comparing opinions doesn't usually get us anywhere. I like Oblivion much more than Morrowind, a lot of other people disagree with that. Each game stands on its own, and shouldn't be compared just because of the same title.

im sure this will end up a oblivion vs morrowind thread. but to somewhat contribute T.H. did say that they learned from previous mistakes. i think in OB they were trying out brand new ideas, which they did and some worked and some didnt. so i think that if they take their two outcomes and take the good stuff from both and combine them then it will be one sweet game. this is what i think they will and SHOULD do

its not oblivion bashing if you read it, Oblivion is a great game, but Morrowind also had a great setting.
Oblivion and Morrowind are each set in fictional universes thoroughly incompatible with each other
the question is, which version of tamriel is the Skyrim setting going to be closer to?

I fail to understand the point of this post. Oblivion and Morrowind are two different games. In response to the title of your thread: It will take place in Skyrim. Answer your question for you? Close this thread please.

The OP is saying what kind of world will TES SKYRIM be set in, where Morrowind had a myriad of factions, point of viewsm and alternating feels of the universe, Oblivion generally made everyone....Generic and black and white so to speak and wants to know if that will continue.

Exactly, will it be Good vs. Evil as in Oblivion, or Point of View vs. point of view, factions, politics, people, money etc as in Morrowind, Daggerfall, reality

Seems to me it will be a mix of both, with the Dragons (Alduin) being an identifiably "bad" (not evil, as they are part of the cycle of the world, but certainly bad for men because it means we all die), and the political structures creating a labyrinth of opposing views and ideas of what should be done.

And please stop typing in all caps, Paul Henry. It hurts mine eyes.

Because they will remake the game to a degree, just as they have done since Morrowind.

Morrowind is, in my opinion, the pinnacle of rpg's. Like oblivion, skyrim likely will not live up to that. But also like oblivion, it will be a great game in its own right.

Skyrim will be set in its own world. You have to wait and see what it will be like.
