What's Tesselation?

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 1:47 pm

So Just Cause 2 comes out, and it has a totally open world with awesome graphics! It uses Direct x 10/11 only. Basically the only game that ever demanded of me a cool, smooth PC.

Skyrim come out, and try to make RPG lite, so that it feels like you in the action. Tonnes of white boys go for it, to 'feel dragonborn' like their voice matters or something.

What does Just Cause 2 do so well, that makes the world look awesome, that Skyrim doesn't? Or how does skyrim limit the fps so much that the blur looks cool?

And can any of you, black, white, asian, caucasion, green, red, whatever I was born in a PC time. Can you show me what Tesselation can do, when athe Ps3 users can't understand memory, the xbox users can't know limitations, and the pc users can't realize full potential?

It just seems to be

limited to svck

because of money

I don't know the answer to this question, but I would totally buy a grappling hook DLC for Skyrim.

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tessellation

A tessellation or tiling of the plane is a pattern of plane figures that fills the plane with no overlaps and no gaps.

I'm very confused. The OP asks what tessellation is, then talks about Just Cause 2, then goes on to bash consoles for no particular reason, then randomly brings ethnicity into it, then links to a Macarena music video.

What.

Sheogorath would approve.

The mods, hopefully, do not.

You know OP, just because they're called "paint chips," doesn't mean you should eat them.

I think the tessellation you are talking about is the technique of lining up triangles in a 3D mesh so that they fit together into shapes like rectangles/squares/etc. There are techniques where you can group triangles together (into things like "strips") that let you render them together faster than if you had to use every single point on all of the triangles individually every frame. The techniques for that are fairly old and well known, so I'm not sure why you are bringing it up as if it is some new breakthrough/buzzword.
