what is the actual purpose of dragonborns?

What is a dragonborns actual purpose? Why is it they get thrown into mer?
We know that the gift is from akatosh, but imo akatosh really only cares as well as the other aedras what happens to the physical world itself which is understandable since mer is created with the "bodies" of the aedra. Hence why aedras really only step in physically when mer itself is in danger, not the actual people. Ex. Hist and akatosh physicqlly involved with oblivion crisis because it wasnt because the people were in danger, more along the lines mer itself was gonna be transformed into an oblivion plane. The dead bodies of the aedra woulda ceased to exist, etc etc.

So what exactly is the role of a dragonborn? The obvious dragonborns we know of were conquerers and created human empires over every race.

Is it the aedras have something against other races being the dominate over humans? Are humans the "chosen ones" for aedra?
Wulf was used several times against elven armies.
PC dragonborn is against alduin raising up his dragon army to dominate all mortal races.
The dragonborn in the dlc Dragonborn was created in a time when dragons were the race over all mortals.
Allessia overthrew the elvish empire.
Martin was used as a vessel for akatosh to step in before everyone was dominated by daedra.
Tiber or Remen overthrew the Cammoran empire, but either way both defeated elvish armies and conquerers.

Is dragonborns merely here to make sure humans stay above elves, dragons, daedra, etc etc?

Every once in awhile, Akatosh gets a case of the hiccups and a Dragonborn is thrust into the world.

Seriously though, I don't think the majority of them (Or any at all, save the LDB) have any express purpose to be in the world. Just that a few of them have the good fortune of being these colossal figures.

It's awkward. Miraak was the first at a time when Akatosh wasn't a mannish deity.

But the Nords were worshiping the Dragon-God, and belief is power. I don't think it really matters what they called him, if they were loyal and he wanted to make one of them thus he would.
