i was wondering what do the people of cyrodill believe in for an after life?

As far as I can tell from what I've seen, they believe they will go to Aetherius when they die.

Who cares what the people of Cyrodiil believe. When I die, I go to Sovngarde, and drink mead in Shor's Golden Halls.

I never got that impression. If anyone has the impression that they go to Oblivion after they die, it's the Dunmer.

And Azura seems to be the destination of choice for the most part, along with the khajiit.

Oblivion is the realm of the Daedric Prince Mehrunes Dagon, no mortal being ends up there in death.

I recently read an article that noted that certain chemicals released by the brain during a near death experience, when injected to normal people give them the experience of going to heaven (eg. white light, good vibrations).

It's funny how the same can be said about the Dreamsleeve. When people die and their souls snap back to the Dreamsleeve, they experience the afterlife they expect to experience while something else happens.

We know it's possible to get in touch with the dream sleeve by meditation. Now I wonder, would it be possible to experience afterlife by drinking the right stuff? Could be kinda funky. Closet thing to mind right now is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prey_%28video_game%29.

Actually, Oblivion is the home of the Daedra and within Oblivion, there are several realms, not just Mehrunes Dagon's. The Shivering Isles, for example, is(is, are?) also a realm of Oblivion. All the more famous Daedric Princes(those that give the player a Daedric artifact in TES games) have their own realms of Oblivion.



What exactly gave you that impression? I didn't see any souls of deceased mortals in Mehrunes Dagon's realm of Oblivion and the few souls of deceased mortals in the Shivering Isles were those on the hill of suicides. The only reason those souls were on the hill of suicides is because they commited suicide in Sheogorath's realm, not in Mundus or in any other realm. It wasn't implied by the people of Cyrodiil and nothing in the game Oblivion supports what you claim, and especially not in the way you phrase it. Where are you getting these facts from? The people of Cyrodiil don't believe mortals go to Oblivion. They believe they go to Aetherius, even though they don't(but so do other other cultures). However, where are you getting the Oblivion part from and why do you phrase your claim like that?

I imagine he was simply commenting on the way in which the Nine Divines and Aetherius can give the impression of the godly and heavenly realms while Oblivion is anologous with hell.

That is a common misconception, although the Shivering Isles don't appear to be hell and since there is a book in the game Oblivion that details different realms of Oblivion(including the beautiful rose garden of Moonshadow), I believe that at least some of the people of Cyrodiil think more of Oblivion than just Hell. The land of Mehrunes Dagon did resemble hell, but Dagon was always inspired by Satan. The Heaven and Hell comparison in TES series is one of the more generic parts of the series. In Arena and Daggerfall, Daedra really were just demons. In Morrowind, we see a more creative side of them. In vanilla Oblivion, while many who played Morrowind knew the Daedra weren't just demons, they were portrayed as demons in Oblivion(but still with some pieces of the game to show they are more than just demons, such as Azura's quest, but worship of Daedric Princes is shunned in mainstream Imperial society). With the Shivering Isles, we see a more creative side to the Daedra, again.

Yes that was the point, but I also remembered a book that stated that evil souls go to Oblivion as well. It may have been in Morrowind though, in which case I apologize for the mistake.
