Rex because he is useful in distracting the enemy.

Veronica because she is good at melee and ranged and she isn't a pu$$y as Boone...

depends on your play style

Boone is great for snipers thanks to his good aim for headshots and spotter abilty. He does struggle in close quarters unless you give a good melee wep like the oh baby. He pairs well with EDE for detecting enemies far away

Veronica is great for close quarters especiually after suppliing her with a good unarmed wep and power armor and get all the perks for her including dead moneys perk

Arcade Gannon is probably my least favourite due to the large amount of ammo Energy weps use makes it hard to keep him supplied with ammo as the plasma defender starts going down hill at higher levels

Lily is decent for close quarters though not as good as veronica but is better at taking hits due to the large END that nightkin have

Cassidy can be used as either a damage dealer or a damage taker depending on the outcome of her sidequest though you will want to supply her with better weaponry as a caravan shotgun is fairly weak

Raul is useful for his perk but is proabably not as good as boone unless you supply him with good weaponry

EDE is probably the superior choice for the non humaniod slot for his ability and he can inflict decent damage when his side quest is done

Rex is like a lesser lily or veronica as he doesnt do as much damage due to the fact you can give the above mentioned companions stronger weapons and Rex can die pretty quick to and his ability isnt the best. His ability to knock down enemies can have use at times though

How can someone say Boone is good with a strait face? He's been broken and useless for six months now.

Veronica is without doubt the strongest companion when given Pushy. Lily's also good when equipped with Oh, Baby! but she's a lot slower than Veronica.

Trust me, Veronica is all BOOM HEADPUNCH!

Non-humanoid is probably ED-E with the Followers upgrade. He doesn't really need the extra HP from the Brotherhood upgrade, and he's a beast with his upgraded Zapper.

ED-E is MUCH better than Rex. He is more flexible in combat- can be set to melee or ranged- and his perk is the second most useful one in the game after Raul's.

Humanoid companions... It depends on your playing style.

Raul is probably the best overall. Good default weapon, best perk in the game (especially if you're using quickly degrading weapons like Sniper Rifles, certain energy weapons etc.), great upgrades, fun dialogues. Pretty damn good in combat. Getting to him early can be a bit of a pain though.

I'd say Veronica is close second. Her perk is mostly good for scavenging; you can craft things on the move and reduce inventory weight. I find it handy in places like the REPCONN test site. But she is extremely powerful in unarmed combat (give her Pushy and watch bodies fly), very good with energy weapons if need be, very fun to have around AND she can wear Brotherhood power armor. Great companion for a sniper who wants a bodyguard for close quarters. And don't forget- Unarmed weapons use no ammo, so V is very low-maintenance.

Cass rocks with shotguns. Give her a Riot Shotgun with slugs and she will make mincemeat out of most things. After the last patch gave 5mm ammo an absurd amount of DT bypass, Cass is no longer THE best companion for Deathclaw hunting, but still a reliable Deathclaw waster. Her perk is not terribly useful, but it does come in handy on occasion. Her default weapon svcks though, and you have to keep your karma good or she'll leave, which is Cass' main downside. Regular Fiend hunting recommended.

Boone, as currently exists, is a love-him-or-hate-him companion. He can be the best if you can tolerate his broken behavior, constant weapon switching, super aggressive playstyle and factional allegiance taken to extreme. His perk is well-suited for snipers, especially in low visibility conditions, and synergizes well with ED-E's. His personal quest is perhaps the best of all companions except Veronica. His default rifle is awesome in early game as it has very high DAM for a default weapon, but after the latest patch it is inferior to a normal Hunting Rifle due to much lower crit chance and crit damage, so give him something better as soon as you can afford it. His upgrade is lousy as well.

Arcade's only real virtues are his powerful default weapon and his companion quest which enables the support of the Remnants in the final battle. His perk is pretty useless 90% of the time, his upgrade is a piece of armor which is very good but not a must-have, and he leaves after his personal quest is completed.

Lily is easily the worst. She is like a seriously deficient version of Veronica. In melee combat, Lily does fine (she seems to have a knack for smiting Cazadors before they can sting her), but in ranged mode she can't shoot worth a damn. She can't wear armor, she is limited in the types of weapons she can use, her voice is funny the first time but gets onto your nerves very quickly. She doesn't get anything that can be described as a meaningful upgrade after her quest. Her perk is virtually useless unless you are a VERY heavy Stealthboy user.

Rex is very useful distracting enemys.

Boone is not a [censored] hes a 1st recon sniper. Boone is probably the best companion that or lilly because she has such high HP and power. Boone has one of the most interesting quests to do also.

I give it to Roni. I go out of my way to get to her quickly, and get her a displacer glove until I can find something better for her. And a suit of Brotherhood T-51b.

As an example of what she's capable of, I went into Vault 3, she sprinted off, and by the time I caught up to her, every single Fiend on the recreation level was dead. Every last one of them. She's a monster with hand to hand, so I let her punch away to her heart's content.

For being a Scribe, she can certainly bring the pain.

I always have ED-E as my non-human conpanion because Rex makes this annoying noise when he runs which distracts me. Plus, ED-E has a super awesome way of telling you when enemies are near by :D

As for the human companions go, I've been debating between Raul and Veronica. I love Veronica's personality and melee ownage (full repaired ballistic fist = :woot:), but Raul's Full Maintenance perk is by far the best perk in the game (from companions).

This is completely based on personal preference, but what you said is probably the best combination. Boone's hunting rifle is like a killing machine at various enemies, esp. used as suppressing fire. And Rex can be used as a moving lure creature. However, having ED-E with you instead of Rex could be a bit better if it had the Alien Blaster primary weapon upgrade.

Unless you pick ED-E of course.....

Rex = ridiculous.
Doc = boring.
Raul = boring and fugly with it.
Boone = Funny, especially when he goes in to his melee\ ranged\ melee dance.
Veronica = Kinda hawt, especially in a Pre war Parkstroller outfit.
Lily = Love her but ruins my stealthy vibe.

There is only one, and you need only one. ED-E

Unless you want two - and that's Boone and ED-E. http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/596934757491076117/6D6B2FBBF899822BABD08263F5606E446D464A57/

Or you can use mods (PC) or a glitch (console) to have all of them, for hilarious, chaotic good times!

1.)Raul is a ghoul.
2.) Is a cowboy

3.) Is voiced by Danny Trejo.

Your argument is invalid.

And yes Ace, everything I say is factual. Y u hatin'?

Ed-E and Veronica combo

Me too. As I play guns character she doesn't take my long range kills and is very good at drawing enemies while I pick them off in close combat. Plus she's a travelling workbench.

The Ballistic Fist is a little stronger than Pushy when it comes to pure power, but Veronica doesn't meet the Strength requirement for the Ballistic Fist. Ballistic Fist requires Strength of 9. Pushy, the second strongest Unarmed weapon, requires a Strength of only 2. Veronica's Strength is set to 7, so she is a lot slower with the Ballistic Fist than she is with Pushy. Since the BF isn't that much stronger, Pushy is often the superior option for her.

Make Raul go back to being a gunslinger and give him a Brush Gun. Congratulations, you have now won the game.

ED-E is better for long ranged players because he provides the best perception in the game, and KNOWLEDGE IS POWER! Rex is better for close-ranged fighters because you don't really need perception for close-quarters and Rex helps by both getting the enemies' attention and knocking them down.
