What is the best gaming TV for use in skyrim?

Post » Wed Aug 24, 2011 12:39 am

HI. I am considering to buy me a new TV so I can get played Skyrim in peace and quiet, to avoid all the hassle from my girl friend every time desperate housewives or something goes on TV.
So I wonder which TV is best and play PS3 and 360 on, in terms of image, sound and etc. I suppose there must be an LED screen as it provides sharpest image. but there are so many, with so many different technologies now that I do not know what is best for longer.

The best was to use a PC monitor, since it provides the best resolution. but I concluded that it would be cheaper to buy a TV instead of a gamer PC.
So which TV is the best and play games that Skyrim on? (I plan to play it on PS3, since that is what I have. do not know if it makes any difference, whether 360 or PS3 supports some television is better than others) anyone have a clue?

It really doesn't matter, as long as the television is 1080p and from a decent name brand (Sony, Sharp, etc.). The size it up to you, but I think you should go with one that's at least 32".

you concluded wrong but that depends totally on the size of the tv you are looking at compared to what size monitor would be required for the gaming pc.

in any case, as for the tv rersponse time and refresh rate will be important, the lower the response time the better and the higher the refresh rate the better. any HD capable tv will be fine as resolution goes if you choose console.

Gotta love how console gamers rant about how expensive PCs are, but then want to buy a 'gaming TV' and think you have to buy a whole gaming PC when you want the monitor

Honestly, i laughed

720p would be better, as Skyrim will almost certainly be 720p on consoles.

I was wondering also. I had a 42 inch samsung plasma (took it back bc I couldn't stand the buzzing noise it made) and bought a 40 inch samsung LCD. Its OK for gaming but I've found my ps3's colors look substantially better than my 360.

I'm also looking to buy a new tv and am considering a 55" samsung LED or a 60" LG plasma. The LG plasma is $1199 and is less than 2 inches thick. The 55" LED has been run at my local best buy for $1299 lately.

I'm still looking if anyone has any suggestions.

I am using a Sony Bravia 52 inch 1920X1080 LCD atm with my PS3 and to be honest the games look sensational and I come from a gaming PC background going back to the early 90's. IMO Sony LCD's, LED's have superior color and contrast, so if you want to watch Blu-Rays etc on your PS3 as well you will want something that supports Full-HD which I believe most brands do these days.

Skyrim will very likely be 720P on both Xbox and PS3 btw.

If your going LED stick to Sony, Samsung, or Panasonic, don't go LG whatever you do, had 3 LG's all defective if not out of the box soon after will never touch their cheap ass TV's ever again! Basically its the old addage, you get what you pay for, LG's are cheap for a reason so go a little smaller but better quality.

That was my biggest concern. If something is too good to be true... you know the adage. Getting a 60 inch tv for 1199 does make me a little skeptical. Thanks for sharing

Well, If you consider that a real gamer PC costs about 20 000 NOK or about 2500 Euros. And the price of an LED TV costs between 5 to 15 000 NOK (625 to 2000 EUR)
This saves a lot of money. And now that there are many good titles to the PS3 for example; Tomb Raider, Fifa 12, Uncharted, Asassins creed, Batman, MGS HD colecction, ICO Shadoww of the Colossus HD, SKYRIM, and Many more ..
So instead of and buy a gamer PC, then I can buy a decent tv, + many of the upcoming titles. and maby a cheap home theater suround system.
For the same price as a gamer PC.
So, the one who laughs last laughs best. As we say here in Norway;)

Obviously the people in Norway are not the brightest guys.

For your information, I can play tomb raider, uncharted, assassins creed, batman, skyrim too.

So you compare a tv to overpriced gamer pc.
The console? That doesnt cost any money?

Im not saying you should get a gamer pc, im saying you shouldnt be so dumb and think theres something like a 'gamer tv'

Why do you think that? I play games at 1080p on my 360.

I would personally rather play on my 50" 1080p plasma than on my 23" 1080p lcd pc monitor, unless... I could legitimately connect my pc to my plasma?!

depends on the tv and the pc but yes you can do it. if your vid card has hdmi out it should be an easy hookup. if not, it will most likely be vga which will also probably connect to your tv but won't be hd.

No, you don't. You force 1080p through your TV, but it doesn't change the resolution of the game.

What? I'm going to buy a very good PC soon and it will cost me around €1200, and I'm 100% sure I'm paying too much.

If you're going to buy a tv, you might as well buy an entire gaming pc from the ground up for at least half the cost.

You think you have problems? My 4 year old desktop is broken again, Powersupply this time, so I am giving up instead of upgrading the Motherboard, RAM, CPU, Video Card which will cost at least 1500 dollars AUS for what I was after (GTX580 costs pretty much half the total cost here in Australia) and instead I am going for power and portability and getting a newly released Asus G74 gaming laptop at 2200 AUD! According to the reviews, they are powerful enough to be considered a desktop replacement - Full HD and HDMI 1920X1080 output, fast I7 Quad Core, 2 Solid State HD's, GTX560M 3GB Graphics, ALL for Skyrim and the other new games coming out in November. Also this gives me the oppertunity to plug my laptop directly into my 52 inch TV via HDMI and game in Full-HD on a 52 inch screen with surround!

Instead of wasting money upgrading my desktop I will get portability and enough power to play all my PC games.

If the TV can only use VGA then it will likely be in HD aswell. VGA has been around for many years and has been out putting high resolutions long before HDMI or DVI. Unless your plasma specifically says that with certain inputs you are restricted to certain resolutions then that is the only way I can see it being sub native res.
