What is the best TES in-game book/story ?

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 5:56 am

In your opinion, what is the best in-game book/story you've read in the TES lore ?

Personaly, I find reading on Tamriel's cosmology particularly interesting. Texts about how mortals perceive god's planes as planets even though these are impossible in their existence (since planes are infinite and thus doesn't have a physical form). Same about all of the cosmology like what are the stars, constallations, sky and moons.

What about you?

Some would say the lusty argonian maid because they can't come up with another title

I myself don't remember any of the books I've read in Morrowind and Oblivion so I haven't a clue

'The Dance in the Fire' comes to mind, all of its volumes. And it's sequel, "The Argonian Account" (all of it's volumes).

Also "The Real Barenziah" is a rather interesting piece (and again, all volumes).

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Palla is my personal favourite, maybe because of it's written in the tragic style

The Real Barenziah. I finally sat down and read the whole thing recently and was very impressed.

I'm seconding "The Real Barenziah". The slightly more mature version of it in Daggerfall is better, but that would get the game slapped with an AO rating if present in any of the more recent ES games.

EDIT: I forgot about my other favorite; "The Rear Guard".
I've always found that one incredibly funny.

ABC for Barbarians.

I like how the books in TES games are actually creepier than the games itself. Like in real barenziah 1-2 they cut that one nords tong and that khajiits head end up on top of a stick for bird food.

LOL! I never saw that one (since I always wanted to play Daggerfall but never could). It is hilarious! I wonder if the books in TES are written by everyone in the dev team that has a silly or interesting idea.

I really enjoyed reading "The Argonian Account" 1-4.
2 of them are hard to find though.

The Barenziah Books are nice, too.

Seems like The Real Barenziah is very popular. I must confess I never have read them all since there's 12 parts to that story!!! (well, it was revised into 5 tomes in Morrowind and Oblivion).

Here are my favourite short stories:
Thief of Virtue
Beggar Prince
A Game At Dinner

I couldn't really get into any of the series, although I want to give the Black Arrow a try.
