Yeah, they are called Deathclaws for a reason, their claws cause death. So go around them.

This. Accept that you are nothing but snackfood to a deathclaw under level 10 and move on.

Lots of ammo and a high safe inaccessable vantage point. And lots of time.

Save your game before you enter the target area in case you misjudge and run out of ammo.

The second way to take down a deathclaw under level 10 is to turn on godmode.

Ever seen the Princess Bride (Much manlier than it sounds) it means Rodents Of Unusual Size, Wild Wasteland replaces the giant rats with them, and they are very big.

I killed them all with a 9 mm. Even the mother. Ad said before there are certain spots they don't even try to reach. Took awhile though.

Walk another way and pretend you never saw them o.O
And at level 10 you should run as F**** hell because their tough as hell and there is no way you will get past quarry junction and over to the strip....

you can make it to the strip heading southeasterly.
On my second character i made it to freeside without dying once or reloading at level 2.
Boone and the vantage points are awesome for deathclaws, tho takes a while to set him up and get there.
I found that sitting on top of the diggers allowed free kills on deathclaws with a hunting rifle, they run up to you and if your quick enough to get on the roof they stand there looking at you and taking it in the face or run away then back again

I would recommend using the bb gun.

You forget "Abilene". Just BB gun is for the Manly man.

Anyways, silenced vermin rifle would get the job done eventually; Incinerator is also good if you can stay out for aggro ring.

Lvl 5 was my earliest, 3 powder charges and a bladed gauntlet.
However.. the best way is range, night, sneak, a silenced and scoped varmit rifle and AP or .223 rounds for it.
Add in an unreachable perch such as a cliff face, small entrence way or dumpsters with corrugated roofing alowing a way out.

I'm afraid i'm not much help.... I mainly use sneak attacks with Gauss rifles and missile launchers (I'm so stealthy). Not sure if you can find them at your level though.....

Gauss rifle from above *bumps into yet another invisible wall* maybe not, but still Gauss rifles are the way to go.

I took out deathclaw promontory level 12 with a combination of a heavy incinerator (god bless NCR heavy troopers) and various explosives. Stick to high ground, use the terrain and you should be able to stop them reaching you.

That said, by the end I had less than a tank of fuel left...and apparently when you save and reload later they respawn. Cue my girl taking a running jump into that water...man that was a scary moment...

Anyway, terrain, terrain, terrain.
Failing that, lots of mines and cripple those legs, both of them. Then backpedal like crazy and preferably poison them or set them on fire. Breaches the DT (they still have obscene health though).

Best bet is probably "Don't do it".
