What is the Currency?

Post » Fri Oct 15, 2010 9:32 pm

Sorry if this has already been asked, but what is the currency going to be? Is it still bottle caps or is it going to be something different? Being in Vegas, Poker Chips would be pretty cool.

NCR - Money (NCR Dollar)

Caesar's Legion - Legion Money

New Vegas - Caps

We can apparently change one type of currency for another, no idea whether we will take an exchange rate hit or not, but I'd guess yes.

IIRC certain vendors have a prefered currency. Prices may fluctuate depending on the currency offered.

I'm very pleased they included this feature with more currency. It is something I always wanted to see.

Don't forget that chips can exchange for caps anywhere on the Vegas Strip. I may end up converting much of my riches to chips to force myself to rough it out in the desert.

Im glad there's more than one currency. If I remember correctly, in Fallout 2 it was gold though.

I'm surprised it isn't straight chips for money.

I'm pretty sure that you can effect the exchange rate between the currencies...

NCR dollars in Fallout 2 were backed by a gold reserve. Unfortunately, this reserve was destroyed by the Brotherhood of Steel. As such, NCR money is backed by water in New Vegas.

The way I understand it is as follows:

1) The NCR has it's own issued currency, NCR Dollars. This is pretty much what it says on the tin.

2) Caeser's Legion has minted their own form of currency in the form of gold and silver coins.

3) Bottlecaps have been traded in the wasteland for a long time now, and as such they are still present and used as currency.

-The casinos all have their own unique chips which can be freely traded (in said casinos) for all three main currencies and vice versa.

-Traders will accept all three forms of currency, not sure whether they will favor one type over another but that would be interesting.
