What is the deal with all these Were-Animals?

Post » Mon Nov 08, 2010 5:25 am

I have noticed that there seem to be a lot of fans of various exotic were-creatures.

I don't remember reading about these in any of the in-game books in Oblivion. Were there multiple sorts of were-isms in some of the earlier games?

It would seem problematic if they were included in Skyrim because then not only would you need to be careful about catching vampirism, but also wouldn't each of these creatures have a different sort of disease?

I imagine it would be a bit annoying to catch multiple were-pig, were-bear, were-crocodile, etc., diseases and keep turning into so many different animals. If you have vampirism and then you are bitten by a were-boar and a were-whatever, then what happens?

Personally I have no problem if they are included, but I'm just trying to understand the mechanics.

were-pig, were-bear,

Then player would be the pigbearman.

But anyway, I doubt that if they make cathing any this kind disease possible, there won't be none other than the wolf thing. Adding multiple of these kind of things would require quite a lot of work that could be used to something more useful (IMHO).

Weresquirrel would be ridiculously entertaining though. Imagine you get bitten and you catch that.

So does this apply for the wereyeti that's been mentioned?

I think the image that appears to be a "wereyeti" in the concept art from the behind the scenes video is actually an updated troll.

There were werewolves and vampires in Morrowind, but you couldn't be both.
One of the effects is immunity to disease.

To those being confused or worse because I talked about a wereyeti: I got the name from a link that someone posted just minutes ago. It lists the name "wereyeti" as confirmed.
It's the same to me what you call it. Do as you like. It's not worth the fuss to me. What's in a name...

There are a number of were-creatures mentioned in lore, but while I'm not sure about Daggerfall, in Morrowind's Bloodmoon expansion, only werewolves appeared, and you could become one during the course of its main quest, or you could potentially contract lycanthropy while fighting werewolves.

But I would imagine that if you're one type of were-creature, you can't become another, but it's probably irrelevant since if we see any sort of were-creature at all, my guess is it will only be werewolves.

Were-boar and Werewolf are the only were creatures to feature as playable in the ES series (both in daggerfall, werewolf in Bloodmoon).

Were-Crocdile is from the black marshes, sort of a spin off as wolves dont live there.

oblivion should have had werewolves mate, its in the lore.

lots of provinces have their own wear creatures too. argonia has crocks, skyrim has bears, elsywere has lions, hammerfell/high rock have boars and every province has wolves. there is apparently a wereshark aswell

personaly- wereboars, bears and wolves sound like a good idea

lycanthropy sounds a lot less intrusive than vampirism too. since it only happens once a lunar cycle (even though the game's world has 2 moons that are often full)

The Were-creature thread being directly below the sixual Diversity thread amuses me with odd possibilities of the origins of were-creatures.

You could be a werewolf or werebear in Daggerfall and in-game books spoke of other were-creatures.

It is an established part of es lore and I hope it comes back :)

Is there a line out there somewhere that should be drawn - is there some animal that is too exotic?

Or should we let all our were-brothers and sisters roam free?

Theres 7 varieties mentioned in ES lore. If I could remember them I would mention them all. But sadly I can only remember...

Shark
Wolf
Crocodile
Boar

Dont remember the last 3 sadly.

There is already a topic about were creatures, do we need another? Nope.
