In the poll of favorite race, Argonian takes the cake. I see no advantage to them other than waterbreathing and some picklocking.
Lorewise, they don't have much content either. The most lorewise race would be Dunmer.

I just made an Argonian in Oblivion, it was freakin' beast. Pretty balanced, just not what I would see the best.
My dad thought it was a dragon.

Argonians give you the greatest satisfaction when cracking their skulls with a mace or slit their jugular with a dagger. Nothing beats watching an Argonian begging for mercy but you cut them down anyways. When a jumpy Argonian all of a sudden becomes still it is a miraculous sight to behold!

They're balanced and, for the most part, can fit most play styles. They are also immune to poison and pack a high resistance to disease which I personally like a lot.

Water breathing, resistant to poisons and diseases, fairly well rounded, they're lizard people, they're freakin lizard poeple, did you not hear me the first two times? THEY'RE [Censored] LIZARD PEOPLE!
