What's the difference between these two Daggerfall versions?

Post » Wed Jul 27, 2011 3:35 pm

I recently accuired a second copy from Daggerfall. However, it has a different cover from the version I already had. They are both English, so I was wondering if anyone can tell me what the difference is between them, and why they were released. Photo of them can be found at http://i52.tinypic.com/33bekp2.jpg .
Only difference I can find is the fact that the right box has a manual with a black/white front, and the left one has a front with green colors. Also, the cover for the cd case is different.

That cheesy one on the right is the UK version.

Thank you :). Although I wouldn't call that version cheesy, the quality of the box is much better than the other version.
The other version is the European main land edition? Or is it the US version (or both)?

I know it's the US version. Don't know about the others. I just think the holographic box looks cooler :)

The lettering on the logo is nicer on the US box as well. The one on the UK box is lit at a very awkward perspective, almost as if it were a 3D rendering or something like that. Also notice that in the UK version, the D has additional "wing vanes" which imply it was based off Mark Jones' older design for the Daggerfall logo. http://home.comcast.net/~mjonesgraphics/daglogo.html

Thank you for the website, great site to find some Daggerfall (/gaming) history. It seems indeed I have the US en European Version (not just UK apparently). Although my US one isn't holographic unfortunately :(. Just one more question: on the link you posted StoneFrog, there are two more covers. The lower one, with the woman and the horse was never used I guess, but do you have any idea about the right one, with 'the original box' above it? Was it ever used?

I don't think so. They were both used on the menus for some of the old Daggerfall demos but I don't know if any higher resolution versions are around. A shame, as I'd love to get ahold of the bottom most one.
