What's the easiest level scaling mod to install and the most

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 12:01 am

I'm currently using FCOM. I followed a very handy video tutorial guide on how to install it, step-by-step, but it looks like it's a bit unstable. Keeps crashing on me during certain parts, like certain areas. Not too much of a big deal though, since I could go around the area. In case I come across a game breaker caused by FCOM (crashes at a vital part), I would wanna probably switch to a more stable and easier to install level scaling mod, one that would ensure no problems and crashes.

And BTW, the video tutorial that I was following, followed this thread. http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1224182-relz-fcom-convergence-and-ufcom/

So maybe it's like FCOM+ or something that I'm using? Maybe that would explain the crashes.

Well what sort of level overhaul would you like?? If it's something similar to FCOM but more stable, try just OOO or OOO + MMM, as FCOM is heavily based on the gameplay changes that OOO makes.

I'd say the easiest to install would be http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=268 mod. As far as stability, all of the overhaul's I've tried have been stable.

Nothing too complex. I imagine it would be more stable if it didn't add any new monsters or items, just something that gets rid of level scaling.

I couldn't even install OOO alone lol. Maybe I'll try franceso's mod.

You can try http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35265 Very simple to install (all you need is Wyre Bash for the BAIN setup) and stable. :)

I heard about TIE, and I think the gameplay changes might be a bit too difficult for me...

In my experience, OOO, OOO+MMM, Fran's, FCOM, ROM, TIE, ROM+TIE, ROM+MMM+TIE, and a few other configurations besides, are all 100% stable.

Developing a good understanding of Oblivion mods in general is key, I think. Not that I believe for a second that I do not still have much to learn, by the way! Even so, the time I have taken so far to learn about mods has proved invaluable, when it has come to choosing, organising, installing, fixing, configuring, uninstalling and just generally understanding any given mod.

Get to know the tools at your disposal, quite well, and you cannot go far wrong, in my opinion.

Can do. I just need a recommendation for back up, in case if I ever DO decide to switch to a less intensive mod.

Hmm, maybe I did something wrong? I did everything step by the step in the video, unless the guy who made those videos did something wrong himself, but he got me this far anyways. Just goes to show me that I definitely need an easier mod to install.

Might be the other mods you have running alongside. I could see a lot of things conflicting with FCOM, and incompatibility can easily bring about instability and crashes.

The only other mod I have running besides FCOM is alternative start, unless you count streamline and the 4gb patch.

When do you get the crashes?? Being specific about them, and posting your load order, exported from Wrye Bash, will go a long way to getting your game stable :D.

Well, there was this one spot on the road towards Kvatch that kept crashing. It was very near Kvatch, but it did stop crashing later. Dunno why it stopped, maybe I walked around it, or waited long enough in-game time. And some where in Cyrodil, if I enter one of the gates, it'll crash. Can't remember which, might be the imperial city prison. Also, after coming out of the imperial sewers with the amulet king, if I go through the gate to the imperial market gate district, it'll crash. Though it seems fine if I come out of that gate...

My load order.

As long as they don't bog down my computer and they're compatible with my mods, then sure. Those weapons are pretty.

I've never been able to confirm this as it's tricky to duplicate, but I think this is actually a vanilla bug. I've noticed that scripted weather patterns (like the Kvatch thunderstorm) can crash my game, especially if I happen to cross back and forth over the radius for the script to kick in a couple times. I've also noticed that the scripted weathers don't always go away when they're supposed to, and that sometimes causes crashes. In some cases I think All Natural makes the problem better (other times it seems to make it worse, who knows?). But like I say it's tough to duplicate, so hard to say. It just seems to crash repeatedly at one point in the game and then *poof* go away.

Hmm, what about the imperial city? Any ideas about that? The game crashes when I enter certain gates.

No idea really. Sorry. Just thought I'd chime in about the Kvatch weather scripting, since I encountered it a few times even with vanilla. So, just because you're getting crashes doesn't necessarily mean they're FCOM related. But I don't see much else mod-wise in your load order.
