What's the easiest way to permanently delete items from the

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 12:25 pm

I want to get rid of some items in the game. Mostly junk but some weapons that I've picked up that I think are over powered and devine intervention and almsivi intervention amulets (that I decided not to use this time because it's too convenient). I don't want to bother with finding out each items code because I've got a lot of junk. What is the best way to get rid of all this stuff?

I read a tip that suggests summoning a creature, killing it and depositing all the stuff on it's corpse before it disappears but I can't select it's inventory quick enough, it vanishes too quickly.

Any other ideas?

Thank you most kindly.

There are console commands such as SetDelete and Disable you can use but I'm unsure if they would affect save game stability negatively so I hesitate to recommend them. Perhaps someone else can chime in to say for sure if they are safe to use for what you want to do with them. Reference for these commands is here if you feel like trying it out: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Tes3Mod:SetDelete

If you're using a mod that adds random merchants such as Morrowind Comes Alive or Starfires NPC Additions you can do as I do and just sell off any items you think are overpowered or useless for 1 gold and the next time that cell or NPC cycles it's effectively gone as a new random NPC with a completely new random inventory will spawn in the original place.

Complaining about overpowered items in one sentence and then complaining about not being able to loot summoned creatures in the next seems a little two-faced to me.

Items are easily deleted using the construction set. (But it would be easier to just not pick up anything you don't want to use).

I would suggest that you do what you have almost tried already. Why a summoned creature? Normal creatures disapears after a while so why not leave them in a rat you have killed somewhere?

This.
Kill any creature (or NPC even) and put all your useless items in that creature. After 72 game-hours away from that cell the creature is removed from game memory.
Perfect way to delete anything from the game.

This is the standard (and intelligent) way to keep your Save file nice and tidy.
Don't sell every useless cup/plate/ash yam/sword to a vendor, because the game will remember it forever. Instead, put it on a corpse of something you just killed. 72 hours later, it's erased from the game forever, which keeps your Save file smaller and cleaner.

I'm still up for the idea of "why the hell pick it up in the first place"........sounds rather dumb to me. If you go to the pub does the bar man have to hide the drinks you don't want?

You've misunderstood. I wanted to open a summoned creatures inventory to put things I wanted to get rid of, then when the creature disappears they're gone. I don't see how you can not have understood that from what I said.

Sometimes you're given them as quest rewards, sometimes you need to dispose of a corpse, sometimes I pick up pots from shelves to make room to display a trophy...

I did think of that. I put everything on a nix hound and waited for it do disappear but after ten days it didn't, but that's because, as Pluto mentioned, you have to be away from the cell and I hadn't left the cell. That's what I need to do. Ok, I think that solves the problem then, thank you very much.

I was also concerned about keeping the save file tidy and as small as possible which is why I don't want to sell all the junk or just dump it all in a container. I heard if you take anything out of a container you should remove everything or the game will have to keep track of the fact that the contents changed. Is that true?

Thanks for your reply. I think the creature solution is the best way to go though.

Perhaps some summoned creatures have a longer "dying" animation than others? I can easily open the inventory of an Ancestral Ghost when I kill it, but I think the time that you can open the inventory of things like Clannfears is a lot shorter before they dissapear.

Many players have referred to dead rats as "Trash Cans" because you can use them to dispose of your extra junk.
