What is the Family's problem?

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 8:43 pm

So I walk into Meresti today, minding my own business, to go trade some blood packs with Vance. As soon as I walk within view of Robert (the front gate guard) he opens fire on me!

I had my weapon put away, no special masks or clothes on, I haven't attacked anybody from the family or anybody from Arefu. I thought maybe this is a freak situation so I go outside and wait 3 days to see if the standard cool off time works. I go back in and sure enough, he opens fire on me again. I run past him to see if it's only Robert and when I get inside everybody is gone except Vance and he's trying to kill me too.

So could somebody tell me why the hell these vampire wannabes just decided to attack me for no reason and if there's anyway to make them stop?

There's a glitch in the game that causes The Family and all of Arefu to become hostile to the player if anyone dies in Arefu for any reason. This happens quite a lot - NPCs fall off the bridge, and some pretty heavy duty creature spawns occur in that area as well.

I don't think there's anything you can do besides reloading a save prior to the The Family going hostile. And in the future, avoid going anywhere near Arefu.

Alternatively, just kill them all. They obviously out-lived their usefulness.

Yeah...don't ever fast travel to Arefu. I go to the nearby power station and walk in so a albino radscorp or Deathclaw kills the merchant at the foot of the overpass if not everyone else.

its not that big of a problem cause i played FO3 for over 2 years and prob had 20 or 30 playthroughs and i never had that happen to me and i went to their hideout every single playthru many times, so as long as you stay away from arefu it mostly likely won't happen, its a rare glitch.
