Wander the wilderness look for some loot and sell it at a shop, to buy better loot and then do quests.
It's what I do.

Test the archery and dual wielding.

Head somewhere to start making money

Investigate how the reading and dialgue stuff works.

Or

I might not have bought it in the first place

I'm hoping they ease up on the battle music though... I recall a few times when the music would start up, I'd look around all over the place wonder what is coming to kill me... and then about 30 seconds later I look down at a mudcrab. Epic alright.

Mudcrabs deserve their own battle music. Perhaps a menacing ukulele.

After I have spent hours reading the manual and created my character, (read: crying of joy that the game is here and can't decide what character I want to roll) I will probably save and go to bed. :)

Yeah, too true. Or some random bandit who got stuck in a rock, which means the battle music goes on and on while I look for the bastard, only to realize I have to evacuate the area before the music stopped.

I usually just ditch my prison gear, period. First thing I did on both Morrowind and Oblivion was strip down. Can't stand the crap clothing they give you at the start. Especially the wrist irons in OB. Go commando until I get some decent gear. XDD Much like in real life....only joking...

I actually kept those wrist irons from the beginning, and saved them as a souvenir of my stay in the Imperial Prisons.

I'll probably start the game off the with some good ol fashioned theivery....like I always do.

Go "to the East.... to Morrowind"
No, I will go to the eastern-most city and have a look around. Then head over to the Morrowind border and have a look around.

Nice. I like the memento. ^^ I left the prison holding on to only one thing. That I wanted to come back and kill Valen Dreth in the opposite cell to me. And I did, with the Dark Brotherhood. I didn't actually think I would, until I got to that quest. Awesome. :D

I am actually very interested in the city that is apparently Dunmer influenced heavily. I love Dunmer architecture. I'll probably be heading there myself actually. Good shout.

i will take a look around, then walk in the direction that looks most interesting with regards to terrain.
i will avoid towns altogether for a while i think, just roam the wilds in my bare paws picking flowers and shooting undesirables.

Enable hardcoe mode. Sleep, drink and eat Skyrim.

Plus, hunt deer and train to become invisible.

The first thing i will do once i am out in the open and on my own is find the nearest town, inside the town i will look for the nearest book shop, then i will go there and see if they have any books about the great hero of kvatch that lived 200 years ago, and how he/she closed the gate and saved the city, and his/her other great adventures in the land of cyrodil. if they do i will read it in full, as i have decided that my character in skyrim will be a descendant and therefore the same race as my oblivion character (breton), it's only fair that he would want to read about his ancestors! then i will go take a look around skyrim in all it's majestic glory. If they don't have any such book i will go take a look around anyway, then spend the rest of the game keeping an eye out for that book!

I'll head to the nearest tavern as It's possibly the best place for information gathering. And the reason that you've been set free at the start of the game is already something worth celebrating with a beer. :D

I'll go into the nearest town and start trying stealth and theft, I'm dead curious how the improved system works this time, how people and the guards react to stealing, if the guards are still crazy, if I can use disguise and get away with it, if I can sell stolen items, this kind of things...

Since there will be too much to do and too much excitement on my part, I'll start with light things to protect my heart, such as find Khajiit and Argonian kids :D they must be so funny!
