What's the general opinion on Magic finishing moves?

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 10:25 am

Chatting with a friend about this, and I thought about what finishing moves would be implemented by the different types of weapons. Will finishing moves be implemented into the magic system too? If so what kinds of stuff would we like to do as a way of finishing off an enemy for good? Maybe explosion through fire? Or even charming them into stabbing themselves?

What's your opinion? Even if magic isn't a confirmed addition, share your ideas nonetheless. ^^

I would love to use command humanoid to make someone take themselves out. :D

Maybe there could be some kind of effect on the body on the last hit. Fire could leave the body blackened or still burning even, frost could freeze them... As a special effect for killing someone with that spell I mean.

I don't know how that would be implemented, but it could work. Who knows, but at the same time it probably won't happen.

So what I mean to say, a bit like how the critical hit kills of plasma weapon in Fallout 3 turn enemies into goo.

Yeah, I like it. Could be quite interesting. Like a final blast from a fireball could blow them into pieces or something like that.

Or leave only his boots with a little smoke cloud coming out of it. :D

Lolz. Ever play Crash Bandicoot? When he got blown up from TNT, it would leave his shoes, eyeballs, and a pile of ash. That would be so funny.

That would definitely add some humor to the game! ;)

I like a lot of these ideas. Keep going! :D

I think they will be akin to the laser weapon finishers in F3.

Yeah I hope they don't go about it in the same way.

Hope, fire can turn people into ash, ice leaves shattered remains of people when you hit them after being frozen, and shock leaves charred remains like the dude at the top of the mountain holding fingers of the mountain.

On this subject. it always bugged me when some bodies in OB never disappeared. There would be corpses lying all over the place... Poor bastards deserve a proper burial, at least. But then, I suppose there's not a lot of open burial plots around...

A finishing magic move would be a supercharged version of the spell. You can actually see it in the trailer.

Yeah but I don't think that was an actual finishing move. I think it was literally what you just said. A supercharged-ass kicking spell. XD

I'll have to watch the trailer again. I'd love to see this implemented in the game somehow. I also like the idea of having fire spells turn people to ash, or at least leave their remains charred (like the body on Cloud Top that you get that book from in order to get the Mages Guild recommendation from Chorrol...) :shocking:

I think that the more you practice either magic or a certain spell all your spell damages increase and so does the chances of a critical hit..

Like some things that they can do is to put a hole through there chest (depending on the spell) or for frost or a snow based spell to have them freez and when the player attacks them it shatters..

Those are some ideas I have

How about npcs turning into permanent stone statues where they stand, complete with a frozen posture and contorted facial expression for all to admire.

The Mages equivalent of a 'skull on a stick'

And instead of having a billion different spells that all do pretty much the same thing, it should just be like one fireball spell that gets stronger as you grow more powerful and talented as a mage...I'd like that, anyway.

Troll ash, like it. Also love the DA:O bit, where you freeze someone, and a powerful enough blow shatters them.

I would love to see this. It would be spectacular, in a slightly twisted and morbid, but also somewhat realistic way. I mean, you'd have to be a flipping kick-ass mage, but it would be cool. :flamed:

It bugged me a bit that you could collect vampire dust, but the bodies were still there. Even without finishes, would be nice to see a few more enemies that left different remains, like OBs ghosts and wraiths.

Oh I agree. And it also bugged me the few times I'd kill a vampire and find no ashes... The whole system with the bodies needs some tweaking, and one good way to do it would involve some of these awesome finishing moves... No more sleeping beauties lying around... :dead:
