What if the Great War happened right now?

Hey,
Okay, okay, okay. I'm not trying to be some paranoid freak who has played too much Fallout and has lots of imagination.
But, what would you do? I mean in a real life situation, with nowadays's technology.
It something that, when I go outside and have a smoke or a drink after playing, makes me think.
The USA has enough nukes to destroy the world 8 times (I remember hearing that somewhere.) Then there are other countries with lots of nukes.
But then we don't have the tech to build Vault style bunkers. There are nuclear fallout bunkers and a place in it is like 50.000$ x advlt, 25.000$ a kid. With 200 person max and suplies for one year no way radiation will be gone if a SERIOUS NUCLEAR WAR is involved, I mean Chernobil's (I was born 200-400kms away from it, i'm in Spain now) radiation will take around 24.000 years to be completely gone. Imagine a serious worldwide nuclear war. If there's a global threat the places price in a bunker would grow up A LOT. And lots of people just wouldn't have the money to get a place in one of them. Probably some rich kids who have no idea of how to survive or do anything for themselves.
And as far as we know ghoulification is impossible and it's just fantasy. Mutation is possible but definetly not in a good way, and not with good consequences.
I think even if very few humans would make it to survive after the explosions, they would die because of the invisible heat.
My opinion is that this is possible, in a future. The USA is making Asian countries mad. Even through I like the states, I once heard a quote; ''I'm not afraid of rebels fighting with guns, but I am afraid of a growing big empire pissing over everyone and saying ''We're the good guys''.'' That, somehow made me think.
What I would do is buy some packs of smokes, tell my family I want to do this alone just with me and my thoughts, go to a countryside. Smoke and wait for it to end. Friends are an option, but I think they would be with their families.
Maybe I'm wrong, maybe there's hope, I maybe missed something. But if someone gets pissed off enough at the USA and the USA retaliates and there's a global war. We're all finished.
Oh and also while smoking I would constantly listen to Maybe from the Ink Spots or I Don't Want To Set The World On Fire, even through I'm a metalhead. Why not making it epic?
What do you think about all of this? What would you do in your last moments?
(Some of this may sound stupid as I'm an Ukranian person living in Spain, so I don't know how good my English is, excuse any of my mistakes.

My last moments? I'd like to sit with my dog(s) (depending on how many i have at the time) and loved ones and just sit quietly and watch the fire bloom.

Well whatever it is you would want to do you would have about 2 hours or less to do it :tops:

The Great War lasted two hours.

There are some things that I don't know if done by the government or not that speculate on what would happen.

The one I remember is that war would go normally, then escalate to the USSR (the only country at the time who was also a serious nuclear threat) and US using half of their arsenals before calling it quits. Over the years the estimated death toll would be half of the worlds population.

I doubt a Fallout Great War would happen in real life.

I believe it was this: http://www.johnstonsarchive.net/nuclear/nuclearwar1.html

Basically if you live in the southern hemisphere you will be pretty good to go during a nuclear war.
