What the heck happened to Paladin Danse?

Post » Tue Jan 19, 2016 8:11 pm

It used to be that you could get him out of his power armor and actually equip different armors for him.. like if you wanted to go stealth and quiet in leather. The heavy CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK of power armor does tend to give away your position...

So you could have him unequipall, and he would be this horrible slenderman paladin but telling him to sit in a chair, or sleep in a bed swapped him to a proper body. Suddenly Danse can't interact with furniture. Can't sit, can't sleep.. you get the picture.

I've tried different characters, uninstalling all mods, always the same thing. "I can't do that" "That's impossible" or "Negative".. So, someone please tell me if they've heard anything about it, or know some kind of work-around. I'm stumped and a little tired of the Tin Man following me.

Thanks in advance,

Catlen

so there is a trick? I tried the trick but he wouldn't sleep in the bed. I read somewhere that he had to be at 100% friendship towards you for this to work.

I'll have to have him sit in a chair. I am on the PC with no mods installed and have been having trouble getting him out of power armor.

Seriously this should have been a dialog option. Especially after Blind Betrayal.

If there was a way to get him out of his power armor, then it was a glitch. I've never seen him out of it aside from the one scripted time that he gets out of it.

For what it's worth though, despite what logic would tell you, power armor doesn't affect your ability to sneak.

He will not take off his power armor normally, except for that one point in the main storyline (I assume this is to stop the inevitable stealing of his Power Armor that would go on otherwise)....no idea if he will do it after that, since I added some ventilation to his head on my first playthrough.

Agreed! And it might have been a good idea to change a few of his dialog lines after Blind Betrayal.

Yep. Once you get him out of power armor you can change him to almost any other armor/outfit in the game. He looks awesome in the silver shadow outfit. You can also alter his face. SAVE FIRST, then open the console with the ~ key. Type showlooksmenu 5de4d

@Box Maaan

That's the code for Danse, to get the code for any other NPC click on them while in console mode. I usually chose the face or the forhead and a code will show up that is the identifying number for that NPC. Use the same process ~ for the console, showlooksmenu

It's not advisable to try this on Ghouls, or any other non-humans.. Cause you'll suddenly be staring at your desktop. ;)

well doing the unequipall works to get him to appear as a horrible distorted figure lol but I can't get him to sit in a chair or bed to have his body shape return to normal. All he says when I ask him to sit in a chair is "Stop asking me to do the impossible"

I saw the trick about changing his looks which I want to try with other human characters. I think Cait now that she is all cleaned up needs a more cleaned up hair style. :D But I think I'll have to get his friendship maxed, and then try and get him to sleep in a bed with Lover's Embrace perk. There is a code I believe that puts his friendship instantly to 100% but I will need to look it up. Or I can just bring a set of power armor with me to see him and simply exit and enter it a few times. He enjoys seeing you get into power armor lol

You could try "Openactorcontainer 1" on Danse to get into his inventory, but I don't know if that will be his full inventory or the companion share inventory that doesn't let you pull equipped items... but if it's his full inventory, try pulling the Fusion Core?

@Zardoz and @Box Maaan I will try both. Thank you very much guys!

@Resident_Within I tried sleeping with him. I've got maxed affinity 1100 and it should have work. It's worked perfectly with 2 of my other characters, so I just don't get it. But also, on a different character that hasn't maxed affinity yet, I keep seeing a glitch with the feet of his power armor. The frame is showing through the 'shoe' so could it be Bethesda somehow glitched him in an update?

And Resident, isn't it weird how excited Danse gets over weapon mods and armor mods? I swear, I think the next time I'm modding armor I should be able to hear a loud *ting* as his boner hits the inside of his power armor. :P

Thanks for all your help guys. Going got try a couple things. :)

So I tried a few things.

Took him as a follower and set his affinity to 1000.

Next I fast traveled to another location. It seems loading to another location seems to trigger conversations with companions

Next I entered a power armor set I had stored at that location. He liked that.

This initiated a conversation with him where he expressed feeling lost and I had the romance option which I took.

I had read that you need a double bed but I didn't have one nearby. I had a single bed nearby however. So I did the following

Saved (duh heh)

selected his ID with the console and entered "unequipall" which put him in that stretched body

then I went to the bed and slept for 3hrs at which time upon exiting I heard that familiar sound of someone exiting power armor. It was Danse and he looked normal.

However when I tried to equip him with items it said he could not carry any more. So with his ID still selected I entered "setav carryweight 1000" and this gave him 1000 carryweight which allowed me to give him items.

Then using the showlooksmenu +his ID number I gave him a scar and grew out his beard a little. After all he is suppose to be sort of hiding right?

End result I think I like :D

SWEET!!! ok.. I'm going to try your solution and hope it works for me too.

Your Danse looks awesome, btw :D

Guess we're just part of the new 'Danse Craze'..... sorry., I just had to. :)

Oh, there is a double bed at the Hotel Rexford in goodneighbor. It's scuzzy lookin, but it's there.

danse craze... hahaha clever.

I can confirm no need for a double bed however. I used a single bed I had in a home I made on top of the Slog settlement building.

And it is probably a glitch but now I have his power armor frame... which let me enter it without putting in a fusion core. And it shows its empty frame without one.

Problem is in my game, the BoS are all over the place... so taking him somewhere is rather difficult since I am now the highest ranking BoS officer under Elder Max
