What the Hell are spiders doing in the Far Northern Hinterla

Post » Thu Dec 03, 2009 1:28 am

I guess if u want to approach it logically u could say they only appear deep in caves where the cold doesnt reach them so they can fester in there...but this isnt earth its tamriel so make it 10ft tall and stick "frost" in front of its name, have it eat ur flesh when u walk in askin for directions...and if that doesnt please u we could have it shoot fireballs from its fangs and ride a huge harley davidson named "micheal lamlin" as it attacks nearby villages with polearms and fishysticks...or....we could just play the game and be happy that there are so many different and diverse enemies in skyrim...dont wanna get repetitive do weee? Derrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr -_-

What the spiders are doing is having your character wrapped up in their itchy, slimy, acidic web paralyzed by their venom as they slowly chomp away and svck your body void of fluid while you are still alive over the course of 5 agonizing days until you are an empty shell that it lays eggs in and 5000 baby but soon to be 8' spiders hatch and get into another characters home crawl into their nose and lay more eggs in their brain, then they hatch rise and repeat.

Lolz, now you'll make all the arachnophobes run away and cry.

This.

And the spider in the trailer does sorta look like a huge wolf spider to me.

Because we're bored, and we like talking about spiders? Or maybe everyone just likes speculating, since we don't have all the info? Or it could just be to aggravate you. Many possible reasons.

I kind of agree. Yes, it is a fantasy game, but it still needs be fairly realistic to keep it believable. Otherwise, it won't be as much of an in-depth experience. I expect there to be an explanation as to why they can survive in the cold. Something along the lines of them having a thick hide, a lot of hair, living underground, etc, etc. If not, it'll just be a bit silly.

They're simplay scaring people who have arachnophobia :D

But guess those giant spider give a [censored] on how cold it is cause they're damn hairy.
And they simply arranged to live with that climatic environment

Honestly... the Devs thought spiders would be a cool creature to encounter, and the game they're working on now is Skyrim, not Black Marsh. So go figure.

All of Skyrim isn't frozen, plus this isn't Earth.

Not to mention that they're not spiders as we currently know them. I certainly have never heard of a real life spider that was the size of a horse, like the one I saw in one of the Skyrim screenshots. So who's to say that particular species isn't hardy enough to survive through a winter? This is a fantasy game based on an alternate world, why should things work the same as they do here?

The day a TES game takes place on planet Earth is when people should have concerns about things such as this. :P

But to answer your question, it's most likely a frost spider, that is why it can live in cold regions such as Skyrim, just like how trolls survive in Skyrim, because they are frost trolls.

Spiders are everywhere man. Spiders are in Canada where I live and we are a northern climate. Where do the spiders go during our winters? underground? It is always 6 degrees celcius underground which is warm enough for many many creatures. Again though, that is for earth.

You are all missing the point :P

Spiders can live in Skyrim because they wear 100% Resist Frost stuff. Period.

They're not actually out and about in the winter though. They lay their eggs during the warm season, then those hatch in the spring, giving us a new generation of spiders. But that doesn't mean that some giant spider on another planet couldn't manage to survive through a winter though.

Spiders survive the norwegian winters without problem. As someone stated: spiders are hardy creatures that quickly adapt and the size is more illogical than the fact that they live in the north. Also there is magic in the world of ES and it affects everyone in it in some degree. Just look at the relations of how long a person live and how skilled they are with magic. Diviath Fyr is a good example here.

If they were realistically that large, their exoskeletons would weigh them down too much to move. If their exoskeletons were thinner, then they'd be entirely vulnerable to changes in temperature, physical blows, etc. A giant spider is next to an impossibility itself(unless the oxygen content of Nirn is HECKUVA high, of course), so them being in the cold isn't that big a stretch. Also, MAGIC, and ELVES.

You've seen the trailer right? Skyrim has plenty of temperant areas, like forests and the few towns we saw, plus ones we haven't. Skyrim isn't all tundra
