What the hell was Benny thinking?

Post » Sat Dec 26, 2009 5:52 pm

Did he really think that in the Fallout universe, where human beings have skulls harder than Diamond that he would be able to kill the courier with 2 shots to the head with a measly little 9mm pistol? I don't think that can even take down a a wimpy powder ganger. You'd think he had never fired a gun at a person's head before. Although, I guess the cutscene would've gotten a bit boring if it simply showed Benny firing at the Courier's head for several minutes before they finally passed out.

Point of this thread?
You survived 2 shots?

The cut scenes are suppose to be realistic.

I thought you were going to say "how did he expect to control the fate of New Vegas with so many powerful factions competing for control."

But what you said was cool too.

Benny was a tribe 7 years ago, no way he would know 9mm to human skull have decent chance NOT killing them.

The cut scenes are supposed to be realistic? What does that mean? Do they take place in an entirely different universe or something? Certain logic only applies during cut scenes? Even when you talk to him about it, he is baffled at how you survived the two shots, which is stupid considering every human in this game is a bullet sponge.

A 9mm pistol round has enormous penetrating power at close range, especially if Benny used +P ammunition. Thats the problem with 9mm, it tends to go right Through its target instead of imparting all of its energy Into the target. Thats why alot of peeps like .45 and other large or powerful pistol rounds; they are better at knocking people down and inducing hydrostatic shock than the smaller caliburs.

Fallout universe or not, at < 3 feet those bullets are going into your head. ;)

That it was a 9mm pistol makes it at least plausible that someone could survive the hits depending on where you got shot, how far the bullets penetrated, etc.

Umm, the gameplay is for the human player, if every enemy died realisticly it wouldn't be very fun. Or hard. The cutscene is fine.

I think they went with the 9mm pistol because it looked cooler to have in an opening movie. If Benny would have shot the Courier with a BB gun I fear it wouldn't have had as much of an impact to start a game on (would have explained the goggle-eyed look on the two Khans though) ;)

9mm is definitely more than enough to kill someone.

What I like about the story is that the human brain can actually take alot of damage and keep working, though the chances of brain damage of some kind are phenominal. :)

Sounds about right for our hero!

wow dude calm down...

Anyway I assumed he was useing HP ammo, and crit/hidden. If his gun skill is as high as mine was when I took it from him then odds are he could do some nice damage also...

I was one shot killing a lot of folks with it...

Its not Benny's fault. It was his first appearance in Fallout and didn't quite figure out the critical damage for a head shot right. Plus he used the wrong ammo type. I came a crossed this problem a lot my first play through.

I'll make sure my next thread is filled with such awe-inspiring and mind-blowing information that it will rival English literature's most beloved and revered masterpieces.

Looking forward to it. :)

PS, I'd easily survive two shots to the head. :disguise:

Well, c'mon now, it's not like the Courier, in the game's canon, levels up, and decides which skills he wants to use. It's not like he actually gets perks that he can select every other level. These things are for the gameplay. In the Fallout universe, people do not often get shot in the head repeatedly and shrug it off.

I find it more annoying that the opening cutscene gets all the geography wrong....

In game- the tree where Benny butts his smokes is shaped differently, the grave is in the wrong orientation, and worst of all, Vegas is visible behind the killers, when it should be to their right hand side....
Inexcusably sloppy design, in my opinion.

Did the bullet stay in the courier's head?

I don't see any scars in the back of my head.

Dude its a game, your suppose to suspend your disbelief when you survive a horde of bullets not when a cut scene does it a bit more realistic a hail of bullets would have looked stupid Second Maria[Benny's gun] could deal upwards of 100dmg from a headshot critical using hollow points and you easily could have been shot two dozen times before waking up next to your grave.
