What is the highest possible sneak attack multiplier?

Post » Sat Feb 06, 2016 4:25 pm

Hey everyone. I'm trying to max out the sneak attack multiplier for my sniper build, and I'm wondering how high people have managed to get theirs. Currently I'm getting a 5.4x sneak attack multiplier, but I've heard of people getting sneak attack multipliers as high as 5.9x, 6.1x, and even 6.3x. What perks am I missing here?

I've got Ninja and Mister Sandman maxed out. I have Deacon's Clock and Dagger perk. What else do I need to boost my sneak attack? Is this tied into the magazines or anything like that? I've tried Googling for an answer to this, but haven't really been able to find any solid information. Will Bloody Mess add to my multiplier?

Some other relevant perks - Sneak, Sniper, and Critical Banker are all maxed out. Better Criticals is at rank 2. SPECIAL is at 11 across the board.

To be honest, I don't know. I was unaware that multiples of five or higher were possible. Perhaps Mister Sandman incorrectly lists itself as an additive damage bonus to sniper weapons, and it is actually an increase in the sneak multiple. Or perhaps they use the term critical somewhat loosely to mean sneak attacks, as well.

As far as my highest, it is 12.6, but that is obviously with melee weapons.

The only other bonus that I can think of would be from weapon mods. The combat knife's "Stealth" mod adds to sneak's damage multiple, but I do not believe there is an equivalent for rifles.

I've been confused before by the game's use of sneak multiplier and criticals as interchangeable terms. Perhaps all critical bonuses apply to the sneak modifier, but it seems as though they use the term in some tooltips when the bonus doesn't actually apply to sneak attacks.

the 3 perks together are bugged unfortunately

depending on the order you take the perks and then get deacons depends what multiplier you will get

this from wiki

Sandman 3, Cloak, Ninja 3 = 6.3x

Sandman 3, Ninja 1, Cloak, Ninja 3 = 5.9x

Sandman 3, Ninja 2, Cloak, Ninja 3 = 5.9x

Sandman 3, Ninja 3, Cloak = 5.9x

Ninja 3, Cloak, Sandman 3 = 6.3x

Ninja 3, Sandman 3, Cloak = 6.3x

Cloak, Sandman 3, Ninja 3 = 6.3x

Cloak, Ninja 3, Sandman 3 = 5.4x (!)

so im guessing you got deacons perk before ninja 3 and sandman 3?

hopefully theyll fix it

I may be wrong, but I don't think there's any armor that actually increases sneak attack bonuses. There is plenty that increases your ability to sneak, but I believe this is only relevant to enemies actually detecting you in the first place.

The system is pretty confusing. In Fallout 3 and New Vegas there were specific sneak criticals and criticals could also happen outside of VATS. There's a lot of debate over whether or not criticals can occur outside of VATS in Fallout 4, and debate over whether or not sneak criticals are still a thing.

Melee weapons can definitely get a way higher sneak attack multiplier. I literally never use melee weapons though, so I'm only really concerned about the bonus as it applies to guns. As far as I know though, there aren't any gun/armor mods (including legendary weapons and armor) that will increase sneak attack bonuses. There are some that increase your ability to sneak or increase your VATS accuracy, but not the sneak attack bonus.

Yes, I believe that's the order I got them in. Dammit, figures I end up with the lowest combination. It's not really a big deal in terms of game play. I have an Instigating .50 Recon Sniper Rifle that I usually carry, and it does double damage against enemies at full health. So this combined with my sneak attack multiplier gives me a 10.8x bonus, which is generally enough to one shot anything aside from the highest level enemies. My concern is more from a 'completionist' standpoint lol

yeah its annoying though, this playthrough i think i messed up the order and went sandman 3 before ninja 3 dammit, wasnt thinking

will have to wait for deacons perk to see if i did, atleast ill end up with 5.9x if i did heh, hopefullly theyll fix it soon

are you on pc? if so you can remove the perks and reapply them in the correct order to get the 6.3x

yeah im using legendaries this playthrough and i have both an instigating and a 2shot 50cal, i cant quite figure out which one is better but am using the instigating for the one shot one kill thing

hes counting his instigating bonus which does double damage

so his sneak attack does 5.4x damage and with the 2x multiplier from instigating thats 10.8x (if the game multiplies it all correctly as fallout maths has already claimed many victims, including sneak attack bonus' themselves lol)

I am on PC, so I may just reapply the perks in the correct order. It's simple enough to do. It'll bug me perpetually if I don't lol

It doesn't show up as a 10.8x bonus during a sneak attack, but since my sniper rifle does double damage against enemies that are at full health, it does double whatever my damage is otherwise.

So if I reapply the perks in the correct order, that means I can get a 12.6x sneak attack bonus against enemies at full health. Nice.

I'm at level 103 with this character, so starting over wouldn't be a very appealing option. If it came to that, I'd just live with the slightly less incredibly overpowered perk lol

I managed to get it to 6.3x. It took a bit of messing around. Some of the info on that Wiki page is either inaccurate or just didn't work for me.

I managed to get it by removing all three ranks of Mister Sandman, all three ranks of Ninja, and Cloak and Dagger. Then I had to add them back one at a time. First I added Ninja 1, 2, and 3. Then Cloak and Dagger, and then Mister Sandman 1, 2, and 3. I tried just doing it with the rank 3 portions of the perks, but that didn't work. Mathematically this makes sense though.

With no perks you have a 2.0x sneak attack bonus. Adding 3 ranks of Ninja gives you a 3.5x sneak attack bonus. Then you add Cloak and Dagger, which adds +20%, then you add 3 ranks of Mister Sandman for another 50%.

Mathematically -

Base - 2.0x

Ninja Rank 3 - 3.5x

Add +20% with Cloak and Dagger

3.5x+.20(3.5x)=4.2x

With Mister Sandman Rank 3 we add another +50%

4.2x+.50(4.2x)=6.3x

So basically the difference is that Ninja only adds multiples of the base damage, while both Cloak and Dagger and Mister Sandman add onto the multiplied damage from Ninja.

In case anyone needs it, this is how I removed and added the perks -

player.removeperk

player.addperk

The ref id's for the perks are -

Ninja 1 - 0004D8A6

Ninja 2 - 000E3704

Ninja 3 - 000E3705

Cloak and Dagger - 0008530E

Sandman 1 - 0004B258

Sandman 2 - 001D2491

Sandman 3 - 001D2491

When removing the perks I had to remove rank 3 before 2, and 2 before 1. Then you have to add them back from 1 to 3. Make sure to exit the console and verify that the perks are removed in your Pip-boy before adding them back.

I hate you right now.

No, not really, I kid... it's just that in my current playthrough, I've been trying to find a decent legendary sniper rifle, and it has been a source of constant consternation that I never seem to get a decent one to drop and I'm already level 75.

In my first playthrough, I had a two-shot version of the 10mm pistol drop when I was level 8, a two shot combat rifle before I even had Overseer's, and a two-shot sniper rifle dropped when I was about level 45.

No, I lied, I'm still mad... :P

QuantumCurt, thanks very much for taking the time to test this and post your results.

I was wondering why my current character's multipler ended up lower than my old Sole Survivor, now I know!
