What is the Lead Platform

That's incorrect.
It would be interesting to see some evidence of that.

Java would be an awful language for them to develop on for a AAA game. Its too slow. The code is interpreted, not compiled, and has to be translated by a virtual machine. It also doesn't do as good of a job at directly accessing memory. This game should by coded in C++ and Assembly only.

Who said anything about coding the game in Java? I said, the game engine must likely acts like Java in that the game engine handles the system calls from the game and translates them to the proper instructions for each platform.

not only this, but even if XBOX truley is the lead platform, i'll bet anything that it will look, run, load faster on the PC. (like tes3/4/fo3/fonv)

I know it's nooby question. I just was wondering if it's conformed that it's being made for PC and being ported to Console?
Although I'll be buying for PC I hope they at least make a decent effort on the PS3 version.

Well, the Construction Kit mod-makers use to make mods is the toolset Bethesda uses to make the game. Said toolset only runs on PCs. Read whatever you like into that.

I bet part of the reason they're getting rid of the HUD is so it doesn't look so consoly on PC.

Or they're just following Molyneux's example.

I know that when I am programing for another system, I write code on a PC. It doesn't have to work for PC, but when you compile and run it you have your 360, or what ever device your are going to run it on, hooked up to your PC ready to test the latest build. That same code probably doesn't run on the PC itself. The construction set, or creation kit now, has always just been like a database ready to create new objects and data for existing variables then implement them into the game. Its not the foundation. BGS has a whole engine with custom tools including the creation kit, modders just have a user friendly creation kit.

Does anybody have any solid data for the distribution of Oblivion sales across the three platforms? All I could find was that Oblivion sold about 3.5 million for Xbox 360, and 2 million for PS3 (http://gamrreview.vgchartz.com/browse.php?name=oblivion) but there are no figures for PC, nor could I find any total figures (and thus calculate the difference).

Too bad they shut down their internal team working on Project Offset...now they make iPhone games or something like that.

PC has: modding, Graphics, and you can play with whatever peripheral you want. It'll also load faster ect ect.

Console: plug and play.

With the graphic fidelity honestly if you have a GFX card that cost equal to or greater than $100 it will probably look better than the console version. (medium settings mostly with some high and basic AA)

Cell processor shreds through whatever you throw at it. Why wouldn't you have ps3 as the lead?

Riight. Let's see PS3 run Crysis 2 on the highest graphical settings.

Only PC can go through anything you throw at it.

well hopefully crysis lives up to the hype, from all the videos it doesn't look that much an upgrade from crysis/warhead. especially the console versions with there terrible draw distance.

Console: plug and play.

I don't see how a console is different to a PC with regards to plug and play. I put the CD in my computer (or most of the time the game I'm playing most is already inserted,I leave it inserted) and I play. My loading times are much faster than on consoles.

It's either Xbox or PC. I've heard from several developers before that the PS3 is a hassle to develop for.

Let's put it this way; most of the work is done on PCs, but the game is likely designed primarily for consoles first, more than likely the 360 since it's the lowest common denominator. Once things feel right on there they go back to the PC version, work on scalability, add some extra options (ignoring the remaining console interface), and generally do the least amount of modification they can while still leaving it acceptable. Same with the PS3; they translate code, re-optimize, and replace a few button icons.

You have to install the games on PC before you can play them. And sometimes they don't like certain set ups so they need tweaking etc.

Yeah, but it's a trade off of a one time install for better loading times for the rest of the time you play the game.

Lets see the truth Skyrim developed to be more comfortable for console players since they cant make game better with mods, http://tinypic.com/r/e7gvm8/7, PC players will receive better customization options at last and modding tools at best.
From other side I believe developers has much more experience then before and will not repeat the same mistakes again.

Todd Howard said back in the days of Oblivion that they develop for XBox as their primary platform. If that has changed, he has not said anywhere.

The develop everything on PCs, but reduce graphics settings to optimal levels for the consoles so there is little to no lag. It is then locked so that users can not change them. Obviously the setting are open for PC users.

You have to install the games on PC before you can play them. And sometimes they don't like certain set ups so they need tweaking etc.

5 minutes at most for a one time install in exchange for fast load times pays for itself in no time.

All the op wanted to know was if the game was being tailored towards any particular system.

Look at who got the exclusive, that will tell you what the lead platform is.

It's designed for the console and then ported as is to the PC. I hate that it's that way, but it is. It will be up the modders to once again fix the PC version so that the PC users will get a decent GUI.

There is nothing that leads me to believe anything different.

Considering that the PC version comes with "The Creation Kit" [which lets you use the same tools the devs use to build the game; to add to and mod the game itself], I thought it would be obvious that the PC is the lead console for Skyrim.
