What is the Lead Platform

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 11:42 am

I know it's nooby question. I just was wondering if it's conformed that it's being made for PC and being ported to Console?
Although I'll be buying for PC I hope they at least make a decent effort on the PS3 version.

PC usually has the edge but in my opinion it's a tossup.

The PC has Modding

The Consoles are easier to play on.

Basically it's what you prefer. If you have a graphics card on a computer that can handle Skyrim and you like Modding the game then go PC but if you want something easy and still fun to play on and you prefer the vanilla option, then pick the console.

He's asking what the game will be developed on. Not what he should get it for.

Yeah, it will sell better on consoles but if you have a high end PC then get it for the PC and buy an Xbox controller for the computer. The Xbox 360 controller is amazing but you might prefer the mouse and keyboard.

Considering the description of the 4-part Compass UI, consoles.

Thank god for mods.

Yeah I was asking what it was developed on, but does it even make much of a difference?

I think the answer is both. They've had all three platforms in mind since day one. From a technical standpoint it's most likely PC being ported to the consoles, simply because it's easier to port a PC game to a console than console to PC. Especially since it's more than one console we're talking about.

As an aside, I am noticing them using a lot of console terminology when describing gameplay elements so it's not surprising people would see this as a console to PC port. It was the same way with Oblivion. I bet part of the reason they're getting rid of the HUD is so it doesn't look so consoly on PC.

It could if they only keep one console in mind while developing the game. For example the ui for Oblivion was clearly meant for consoles not pcs.

Is the reason the PS3 game is the lesser version because it is ported from the 360 to it?

Clearly xbox, look at the menu mock-ups drawn on the whiteboards.

Great post.
I look forward to buying the PC version of Morrowind asap. Skyrim, for PC, no way. Even my computer (it's a decent one) would most likely haves LOTS of trouble with Skyrim. Have you seen the graphics? Breath-taking.

But yeah. I like the vanilla game just fine. It's more immersive, and less of a hassle. With modding, you know that you're modding this. And that feeling just isn't favorable to me, personally. But mods allow nice stuff.

i wouldnt read much into that. PC controls are easy to set up since their are so many keys but they are going to have to figure out a new control set up for controllers since you can attack with both hands now. that might simply be what they were figuring out at the time.

Its easier to code for Xbox and port to PC then to do it the other way around. It also makes an easy port for PS3 because controls and interface are already designed for a console. To top that all off, I think all three systems support DirectX, so if I were a publisher, I would push for development on a console for a multiplatform game. My personal hope is that the PC gets more work than a cheep port, but that doesn't seem too likely.

I really hope they take a little bit of effort and make a PC ui this time.

IMO DX10-11 features are out of the question given past BSG behavior, but maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised?

Thought so. Honestly not a surprise, if you can't even make a simple PC-UI its doubtful you're going to put in time for DX10/11 effects.
