Well I heard 2000 players total so....666 each...
Is that for campaigns?
I haven't beta tested yet (will next time), but I was hoping that there would be free-PvP in Cyrodiil without campaigns. PvE with opportunistic/risk of PvP is very much my thing. It's a genuine question, like I said I haven't been in the beta.
Lol, well 2000/3 is roughly 666...2000 people total in Cyrodiil, with 200 on screen at once.
I'm not sure, I was only able to briefly try it out, but more than likely you'll be able to find the type of PvP you described. PvP is pretty much perpetual it seems, with campaign cycles resetting points to zero. There is PvE and quests along with gathering. Here's a couple of links you may find useful:

there are lots of other things to do in cyrodill than run around with the zerg
theres is i think 3 cities that act like pve quest hubs, with repeatable quests, so yeah there will be people questing you can gank
there are smaller resources around the keeps that are designed more for groups(4 people in teso) then offcourse the keeps are designed for a lot more people,
but even if defending or taking a keep, there are alot of things small groups can do around the keep,
if defending you can raid the enemies rear lines, burning down a few siege engines before running away, or set up a gank camp between the keep and the enemies nearest respawn point ganking the reinforcements, or raiding resources around a keep that is part of the enemies teleport chain to the front, thereby breaking it
or you can just roam around in a small group looking for other small groups to fight
im also sure at least one of the campaigns, will be set up as the unofficial 4 man campaign, where everyone will be dizzing you if you run more than 4
2000 players per campaign.
Cyrodiil is the campaign, it's the only way to get there. Once there you have an enormous map and those players can do whatever they wish. PvE, small scale or large scale PvP, ganking, flower picking, admiring the beauty of that frothing Argonian Nightblade running at you with weapons drawn against a beautiful sunrise...
Thanks. I can't check the links at work because I work in a government department for a set political party (I'm lucky they haven't blocked this forum), but I'll check them out later. I have gained the impression that it is as you say, but I get paranoid when people talk of "max PvP". I think it would be a huge mistake for an Elder Scrolls game to not allow PvE+PvP-outbreak, but MMO history isn't exactly void of mistakes.
Edit:
... Seriously? No... no... Please tell me this person is wrong.
Yes it is 2000 but there will never be a time when all 2000 are logged in at once nor facing each other in one area of the map. It is optimized for 200 in a regional battle. This is pretty damn good for the graphics of this game. Their custom engine is pretty decent. Sacrifices are noticeable but not too bad.
A true rvr game Camelot Unchained will have 500 optimized on screen but has no pve progression. TESO is impressive for a game so heavily devoted to pve and more dense graphics.
You have to choose a campaign initially. Once you have chosen a campaign, every time you enter cyrodiil, you will be a part of that campaign until it ends. They last for 3 months, then bonus pts get distributed based on your performance (an emperor is crowned) and then they reset. The only other option is to join another campaign as a guest. You can only change your guest campaign once every 24 hours. (This is so that you can play with a friend that is on a different campaign etc)
But really all the campaigns do is keep cyrodiil at manageable numbers. You will be in there with 1,999 other people. It is massive and you will be able to do any kind of PvP your heart desires.
If you are a PvP fan of any kind, odds are that you are gonna love Cyrodiil.
Ok, I get it. Thanks.
So basically there are parallel Cyrodiils and we exist in one based on what campaign we select, and we are not bound to campaign objectives.
As someone who will spend virtually all of his time in Cyrodiil, I really hope I will not end up spending too much time waiting to play. I'm way off topic though.
Exactly. Not sure if you will have to wait in que. We only had 2 campaigns going for the last beta and I only saw them full once or twice. Even then I was still able to get in for some reason. I imagine que times will depend on how many people they allow to choose the same campaign vs how many of those people are trying to play at the same time. I think I read somewhere that if there were long que times, they would add more campaigns.
Also, que times depend on your faction, not total campaign population. They will not allow more than (roughly) 666 players from each faction into a campaign. So EP could be locked on your campaign while DC is open.
