What the? Moments in Oblivion #2

Annoying.
You've made me need to play the MQ just so I can watch the herd thin itself before a major battle.

I feel the same ! And I have a character for whom such an event would be something she is actually looking for.

Curiosity, aren't guards meant to 'respawn' something like 3 days later?

I got the skinned hound from the Shivering Isles and I travled back to Cyrodiil to do some shopping and while I was in a potion shop bartering, I turned around and I saw it laying down on it's side. I was like, "D'awww, I didn't know it could do that."
-Walks up to it for a better look-
"S**t. It's dead."

Right at the start of the game; as the assassin leaps out from behind the Emperor and stikes him down. My character automatically turned to face the Emperor so he could give his "I can go no further speech", except for some reason the assassin is in the wrong place - between the two of us. So I get this really freaky clipping bug where the assassin's arm has gone through the Emperor's head, and the Emperor has no face. He's just a hollow back of a head with some floating teeth and huge, suspended eyeballs.

I've had the same thing before, when a highwayman tried to have a conversation with me through my horse's bum.

Going to sleep in the Skingrad Mage's Guild and being woken up two hours later by Dion who only says "We're here to serve" before bolting out and going back to his usual patrol.

I'm still scratching my head over that one.

If you wake someone up, and than walk away they will follow you in order to start a convasation. I had a similar experience where I didn't have got an empty bed so waked someone up, regrettet and walked away and found another bed, only to be woken by that person I woke up.

Ok, this is a very old one.. I was playing with my witchhunter in an early game and was closing the Kvatch gate. Being in sneak mode, I aimed an arrow shot at the last dremora guarding the sigil stone on the platform. The arrow sucessfully hit and suddenly he collapsed on his knees and fell onto the ground. At thirst I thought I of some chance had knocked him down (but hey, I was FAR from that skill perk..) so I readied my melee weapon, ran towards him and tried to hit him whilst he was still lying, as i thought "WTF? *notices container icon* Oh, he's dead.." So obviously it was a crit I managed with the older DR.. xD

My character summoned a Daedroth in Anvil today, and was immediately attacked by all the guards in sight. I don't think they're supposed to do that...

Thieves Guild, mission 2.
Got the job done REAL fast and got back to the IC waterfront before Armand could leave.
Caught up with him just past the Marie Elena as he was walking along the waterfront, and spoke to him about the job. He says he's in hiding and for me to go find Methredhel.
Uhmmm yeah. Right. :shakehead:
You're saying you're IN hiding at the same time you're walking along the waterfront going TO your bolthole. And you're not even hurrying?
WTF!
Further WTF to this:
I find Methredhel in the Temple district, and the only starter Q when I find her is: Where is Armand Cristophe?
Uhmmmm... I already KNOW where he is and why, so why should I be needing to ask Methredhel for the info as if that info was an unknown to me. And then we come to her reply saying precisely what I already know from Armand.

I have a character who hasn't started the main quest, still has the amulet of kings. He's walking through chorrol and there's this free-for-all. I didn't see how it started but some dude npc ends up dead. So, I check out his corpse, see his name, then I find his house and break in. sure enough, he was mythic dawn, with those certain clues in his house.

So, (1) why the heck did he go into attack mode when the MQ wasn't even started.

And, (2), the wierdest thing, in his basemant, there was something very strange and buggy about the lighting. there were several solid-looking columns of light in the room. very strange.

This isn't so much a moment as a continued occurrence.

I have the Fighter's Stronghold DLC and the follower who comes with that generally comes equipped with a fine quality longsword. Since I'm over level 40 he usually has an Ebony Longsword. And yet he insists on fighting with his fists for some bizarre reason known only to the game engine. I thought the first couple of times I found him dead underneath a marauder or some other enemy that he'd been disarmed or his blade had been damaged down to zero or something but nope - when I check his corpse it's there, in perfect condition. He apparently just unequips it when entering certain zones and fights hand to hand, usually winds up dead too.

Because he's trying to *efficient* level, h2h is prolly his weakest skill and he knows its the one that will grow faster, so at his level up he gets +5 to STR.

He's trying to help you. Nothing wrong with the excellent design.

I think you're telling a joke, right? Last time I checked the AI in this game wasn't nearly that sophisticated, and besides he's a combat character so I assume his hand to hand is fairly high. In fact..lemme check the UESP really quickly.

Ok. His class is Marauder. He has every Combat skill with the exception of Blunt Weapon as a major, meaning his hand to hand should definitely not be his weakest skill.

The question then is: Which combat skill is his highest, and what are the Class skills for Marauder?

Mythic dawn agents are not hostile until you infiltrate their base. They act as normal npc and will fight bandits and other enemies; they summon their armor and weapon in any fight. In Anvil I got help from a female mythic dawn agent fighting the thieves in the shop you guard for the fighter guild. I had to run out on the street to get more room for shooting and she summoned the armor and helped me, had a totally normal npc dialogue afterwards.

Oh, and another time I was trying to save the Count of Kvatch with Martin, Kvatch guards, and Imperial Legion guys. I was fighting a bunch of scamps and I guess Martin hit one of the Imperial Legion guys by accident, because they all attacked him. But since he couldn't die, he ended up killing them instead. I was standing there like.. "O_o Martin...?"

Yeah I'm playing a Nord Scout, and that Mage in Coral that wants you to steal a book for her was annoying me, so I punched her. A guard tries to arrest me I resist and four fighters guild members, who were out side with me attacked the guard.

This literally happened 5 minutes ago. I had to immediately save and quit so I could tell you guys this.

I just completed the quest with Ulrich in Cheydinhal. I was at the point where Garrus told me to meet him in the Cheydinhal Bridge Inn. As soon as he gives me the gold and walks out of the inn, I sit down at the bar table, where Ohtimbar is sitting next to me and Mariana is standing across from me.

Suddenly, Ohtimbar stands up and crouches. He sneaks around the bar table and steals a bottle of ale from Mariana. Mariana shouts "You thief! How could you do such a thing?!"

Ohtimbar casually turns around and sits back down. Having not moved at all, Mariana engages in small talk with Ohtimbar, asking about the other provinces of Tamriel.

After about 30 seconds, Garrus runs back in. He pulls out his sword and begins attacking Ohtimbar. Ohtimbar stands up and runs up the stairs, not drawing his huge battle axe. Garrus follows him, slashing at him, but Ohtimbar keeps healing himself with a powerful spell.

Eventually, Ohtimbar runs back downstairs and out the door. I go outside to follow him. As soon as I get outside, Ohtimbar turns around and runs back in. At this point I was laughing my head off, wondering what the hell is going on.

So Ohtimbar casually walks in and is about to sit down at the bar table again, when Garrus runs up and begins attacking him, albeit with quicker attacks this time. With everyone running, food and cups go flying off the table. Ohtimbar isn't running away or healing himself this time, though. He's just walking in circles.

Eventually, Garrus does a powerful attack and Ohtimbar goes flying across the room. Garrus sheathes his weapon and promptly runs out of the inn. Definitely a WTF moment.

:bolt: :bolt:

That is probably the most hilarious spontaneous failure of the game's AI I've ever read about.

This is how I discovered that a certain woman in Skingrad is a Mythic Dawn sleeper agent. I was in an inn, went over to talk to Alval Uvani, and he threatened to turn my bones to ash. So I decided to try my new frenzy spell on him. He attacked me, and then everyone else in the inn attacks him. Including that certain someone, who summoned her mythic dawn armor and weapon. After Alval was dead, I went over to talk to her, still in her mythic dawn gear and she just had her normal dialogue.

this isnt so much of a What the? just happned as it is what the? did i just do. so i was doing KotN for the first time and i needed the mace,(at least i think it was the mace, it was the one where you have to be wearing the boots to cross the chasm) any way i didnt have the boots yet and i remembberd one of the people said that "you must lose all to know me" so after hours of trying to figure how to cross the gap i decide that the guy meant that i should throw all of my items into the chasm, by then it was getting late so i saved and went to bed before seeing if i was right, the next day i tried it out and low and behold it didnt work, then i was like crap, i just threw all my items into that pit and there is no way of getting them back, making things worse is i save over the autosave when i manual save and my last manual save before my stupid item dump was 4 hours back to before i had started the way shrines.

Conversation between 2 NPCs, I just overheard in the Market District of the IC:

Elisa Pierrane: Have you heard any word about the other provinces
Salomon Geonette: Nothing I'd like to talk about
Elisa Pierrane: So I've heard.

Normally, NPCs will use one of the stock event subjects for what's been going wrong of late in the Empire.
