What the? Moments in Oblivion #2

Post » Thu Dec 09, 2010 4:18 am

I intentionally boosted my acrobatics to around 4000 too see how high i could jump. On the first try i get a good bit up and die falling down, so i had to reload and could try again. The other time I walked forward and jumped near a rock, this time I flew all the way up to the sky and my character keeps going up for a good 20 seconds after i no longer can see any change in the clouding. I'm sure others have done this too, but it was a omplete accident and no matter how hard i've tried, i have never gotten that high again.

This one just happened: I'm at the point in the Thieves Guild questline where the next jobs will be given by the Grey Fox. I was told to wait for someone to contact me. I'm also in the middle of killing the people in Summitmist Manor for the DB questline.

With 3 dead and 2 to go, Metherdil (sp?) pops up downstairs when I leave the basemant and tells me the Gray Fox wants to meet me. The house is supposed to be locked. After she tells me, she up and leaves.

Update - I reloaded after I realized she didn't leave - I got the glitch where she couldn't leave. So I reloaeded and used "invisibility + blade of woe" to quickly kill all 5 people before she showed up, then left. And I did - left, and then she never showed up. So i went back to IC Waterfront and waited, and waited, and waited, and waited - she didn't show up. Finally fast travelled back to Summitmist - went inside - there she was.

So I had to use prid 35642 and moveto player to unglitch her.

WTF???

Closed the first oblivion gate outside bruma the other day. There are those guards that go in with you, well two of 'em died. I looted one for his armor and shield (i collect city insignia armor from all the cities).

So, when i grabbed the sigil stone and closed the gate, I reappeared at the gate as it closed, per usual, and

(1) the captain of the guard or whatever he is (who survived) appeared next to me, but was no longer wearing armor, he was wearing street clothes suddenly (and continues to ever since), and

(2), even weirder, one of the dead guards, the one I looted apparently, literally comes flying out of the gate--like, I mean, I saw him fly right over me--and then fell to the ground, stilll dead, and naked. But, it was only the one guard I looted, the other guard body never made it out of Oblivion.

A surviving Daedroth spat him out, he probably wasn't tasting good. Maybe Daedroth like metal as some sort of bizarre spice?

Okay a small edit I hope I can make it more readable ...

Today I did for the first time ever the 'unicorn' quest - did give a few WTF? Moments a couple of deads and the Prior's horse is also mia (most likely fresh meat for wolfs) ...

And spotted a couple of new locations and a party with a troll and the final party with the unicorn ...

Strange glitch in the last thief guild quest, no note of this in uesp. The part where you have to shot the arrow at the statue standing on a pressure plate. Access is blocked by two rooms with moveable walls and two gates, the two rooms contains undead. Has to go to another cell and press a button to gain access to the plate. So far so good has done this before, however the button was guarded by a lich who killed my mage, after it killed me again I simply sneak past it, pressed the button and redrew, now only one room was open and no gates. Returned and sneaked past the lich to press button again, now two walls on the other room was missing but the other was restored, weirder I run into an skeleton archer on my way back it was in the same cell as the lich, on the other side of a load door from where it was set free.
back again, used summons to kill the lich, this time everything was ok, stole every book and other items in the library including the books the blind monks carry around for some reason.

*General note: maybe people should use the spoiler tags a bit more often - we're in general discussion, after all ;)*

Running FCOM, I play a mage. I'm a big fan of the 'Kill (moderate)' spell - a heavy health drain for 1 second, so that if the enemy has less hitpoints than being drained he dies, and if he has more nothing happens.
However, a side-effect of this spell is drain fatigue and damage fatigue on self. As a mage, fatigue is not something you've got a lot of (especially in the early levels).

So I was bouncing around Rickety Cave, looking for treasure, and got trough pretty well picking off enemies one at a time.
After a while, a second one got aggroed, so I immediatly take a potion of sorcery and recast the Kill spell on the second opponent. Because of my fatigue being drained and damaged, I dropped to the ground in a forward-diving motion, one arm stretched out (from casting the spell), while watching the enemy sack trough her knees.

I'll be coming back there more often - the loot was good, the enemies fun and because this was the first time this happened I'll never forget the place
Spoiler
As I said, I have FCOM running, so the regular bandits have been replaced with Amazon Man-Eaters and their stronger variations. It's great to farm every now and then, because these females love jewelry even more than you'd expect.
Making one trip, without even completing the first level, already yields plenty of rings and amulets to last for a fair while - both high and low value ones. They also got decent equipment (Dwemer Bows, Blood Thorn items) to satisfy the needs of my inner collector.

As you know, the value-to-weight ratio is great with jewelry, so after hopping in this cave once I had a nice sum of gold for the rest of the game. When I came out, not a single piece of loot had a ratio of less than 150g/1wg

My newsest character, an argonian, has the darkest tone and skin possible for the race and this one mage thinks he is funny saying, "you look like a bright one." :ahhh:

Yes funny, though the NPC meant 'bright' due to ur character's high Intelligence attribute.

I know that it was something like that that caused it, but if you ignore that then the situation would truly have been a whaataa? situation lol

I got scared first time a heard the you smell of death comment from a guard, had just killed an adventurer in a dungeon by accident and got a visit from the dark brotherhood. The guards know it to :( was my thought.

My conjurer gets annoyed when she hears that remark. She specializes in summoning Daedra, who (as everybody knows) are immortal, not "dead."

the first time i encountered the frost giant north of bruma, low level as i just did the fcom setup and was exploring,he was handing me my a** so i fled into bruma thinking he wont get menow.not at all.he comes in the town and i damn near crapped my pants, never saw thatbefore,so i run again,i hear town guards hollering and people screaming so i turn around and sneak back and watch with glee as the frost giant taers through the people of bruma.since then i like to lure the beast back into bruma for entertainment.
the best one was when i started a new game with deadly reflex just in.testing it out, rollin through the starter dungeon feelin like a bad ass when i accidently hit the emporer.............he turned around and mopped the floor with me before i could even yield!!!!lolzseriously O_o?!
but my absoluet favorite is still the"gotta cut down onthe ale"or"damn rats, always scurrying around in the shadows, making me jumpy"replies when i either pelt a guy with an arrow,or he looks down to see his buddies head rolling on the floor.ITS NOT A RAT DUMBA**!!!ITS AN ARROW STICKING IN YOUR CHEST!!!!!

I can go one better.
Messing around in god mode, I managed to kill a guard just as the camera was starting to go into the forced convo close focus with the arrest VO. The guard slumps below camera focus point, so I'm looking at a wall while the guard's VO is running. Then the game gave me the standard 3 options. I selected resist arrest, and the guard did its usual response. Then the game finally realized that the guard was dead.

More a question of timing than god mode, self made spell and enchantments do damage over a second minimum not instant so you hit him just before he talks, 0.3 seconds later the effect kills him just before the game freezes for the dialogue.
Talking about timing I once showed a friend how poison worked, shoot an ogre with a poisoned arrow at pretty long range and it started to run towards me while I was just standing still and died right in front of me before it was able to attack, I just had to look down to loot it. My friend was very impressed.

I’ve got one for you. Bear with me because this is a pretty long story.

With my Redguard character I like to put on my trusty amulet of night eye and do night runs to level athletics and practice my archery, block, and blade skills. I also like to give myself a weight/weapons restriction to make the game more challenging.

So on this particular night I leave my waterfront home in the Imperial City armed with the aforementioned amulet, the Jewel of the Rumare, Chillrend with only 10 or so charges left (no soul gems or Varla Stones), and a generic silver bow with 25 steel arrows. No potions, no repair hammers and, since I’m a Redguard, no magic.

My intended route for this run will take me for a swim through Lake Rumare traveling west. From there I will head into the Great Forest until it hits The Imperial Reserve at the base of the Colovian Highlands. Then I plan to make a subtle left turn and travel southwest through County Kvatch until I see the surf of the Abecean Sea. At that point, I will turn left again and head fully south to Benirus Manor in Anvil.

Into Lake Rumare I go. I swim underwater the whole way across because the Jewel of the Rumare keeps me from drowning. I make shore on the beach outside of the Ayleid ruin south of Weye (I can never remember the name). On the beach are some respawning mudcrabs who are usually fighting a respawning bandit/hedgewizard.

Sure enough, the hedgewizard spots me the moment I surface and forgets the two mudcrabs he is in the act of barbecuing. He comes charging hell-bent down the beach, shooting fireballs at me the whole way. I don’t want to waste my arrows or the charges still left in Chillrend on a stupid hedgewizard, so I opt to fight him hand to hand. I roll left, out of the way of the fireballs, and come out of the roll just in time to block the hedgewizard’s clumsy attempt to spit me with an iron dagger. He staggers back two steps. I move in close and start raining haymakers, each one knocks a fair chunk of health off his bar. I guess the fetcher figures that ‘he who fights and runs away . . .’ because he turns back toward the ruin.

And gets himself killed by the jaws of the two mudcrabs!

Well, since I don’t need the extra monk’s robe and since the mudcrabs sort of acted as my saviors, I choose to leave them to it and I jog into the forest. I’m just south of Chorrol when the ‘uh-oh music’ starts playing and a grizzly comes bounding (or whatever passes for bounding in the grizzly world) out of a thicket of bushes. His (for story purposes I will assume the bear is male) first swipe catches me flush and knocks about a third off of my health. I manage to roll out of the way of his second swipe, and I come out of the roll with my bow drawn (I still don’t know how I managed that).

I spend the next several moments doing what the experts call ‘strafing’. Which is to say that I was firing while backpedaling . . . for my life! I’m a full eight arrows down, and I swear that the grizzly’s health is still forming a pronounced arch. I decide to change tactics and roll to the right. I come out of the roll switching to Chillrend. The grizzly does a complete perambulation around me before remembering what he was chasing me for. By then I have managed to assess the surroundings.

We’re on a slope somewhere in the Great Forest. The grizzly has the high ground, but I’m an expert level swordsman and acrobat with a level 25+ version of Chillrend. We go at it; him swiping and gnashing, me rolling and slashing. Another third is knocked off my health before I manage to put Yogi down with the last charge in Chillrend! I skin him right there on the slope because this is one pelt that I plan to display prominently down in Benirus Manor.

The ‘uh-oh music’ starts again. I turn and there’s a mountain lion standing right there! I draw my bow and start backpedaling strafing again. Man those buggers are fast! Arrows are flying willy-nilly through the Great Forest! One in about four find the target. I’m blocking and strafing, running out of arrows, and my health is dwindling fast! We cross over a road and I notice sand under my feet. I reason that I can lose the big cat by diving into the water, so I turn . . .

Right into the jaws of the same two mudcrabs!!

The last thing my character sees is the dead hedgewizard on the beach.

oh man, that was worth reading!

always kill the mudcrabs... they probably have high sneak skill, which means one is always striking you from behind, so they are deadlier than appear :) .

Yay! Resurrection!

I have two for you guys... they occurred last night. I was traveling from Cheydinhal to Leyawin to start my Leyawin Guild Recommendation, and I was running on the road, and deer appeared ahead of me. The deer ran with me for a bit, which was surprising since I (new character, he said sheepishly. The other Destruction/Archer became too powerful) am so slow. When out popped a highwayman out of the bushes, just I came up to him. He shouted, "Look out!" and I one-shotted him with my bow as I ran by (Level 3, Marksman skill of 43). LOL, those deer can be scary.

The second:

I just finished the Leyawin Recommendation, and activate my quest giver, and give her something, and she disappears! But with my Detect Life Spell, I see she has transported to the 3rd floor balcony. WTH? She serenely walks down the stais, and continues the conversation as if she didn't just teleport up two flights.

*JeniSkunk carries out a minor bit of thread necromancy.

Discussions with the newly deceased.

This evening in the Market District, Rhossan was chatting with one of the guards. Stock convo running about the Altmer.
I cast the Hilarity mod spell, Failed Levitate on the guard, and it dies on landing.
The thing is, usually such convos stop when one of the folks dies. This time it didn't.
Rhossan and the guard did the convo in full, with the guard being deceased for at least a third of it. The dead guard delivered the usual close line for the convo: "The Altmer have powerful wizards. It could be a dangerous situation."

edit: fix formatting
