What is the most immersive moment you've had in Oblivion?

So, yeah, I'm curious to see your replies...

For me, it was when I was roleplaying a Nord Alchemist that had a problem with the booze. He got intoxicated at Olav's in Bruma, and decided to fight a particular Dunmer, who has quite the attitude, (http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Alval_Uvani) and a pulse pounding battle ensued within the Tavern, thus spilling out into the streets of Bruma.

He then decided to flee the town, and head into the Jeralls, for the swarm of guardsmen would undeniably slaughter him should he stay and fight. After exiting the town, with a group of guards in pursuit, he manged to climb one of the more monstrous mountains of that range. It seemed as if all was clear until a will-o-the-wisp, a Timber wolf, and a group of Bruma guard's men caught up with him near the mountain's summit.

While trying to cast a shock spell, the Nord slipped and fell off the mountain, slamming into the ground. He was dead.

I was surprised that the guards even bothered to follow him that far. I had never seen them do so with such determination until that day. Kind of made me respect and fear them.

It was a whole sequence of immersive moments that ended in a unplanned, climactic death. Whew, it was better than some action movies, I swear!!

Interesting story and yeah, those guards take their job seriously :P

My most immersive moment have to be the first time visiting Bruma. Having no expectations, I just walked up there only to find a winter wonder land and to top it off, it began to snow... Everything was white and the air was crispy and as I let it all sink in, I longed for a warm fire and an old man′s stories from a long life of adventures. Upon entering the town and looking at the house for sale I knew Bruma would be my character′s home forever, and so it has ^_^

It's nice to see someone who is devoted to their character. I commend you.

Bruma is definitely my favorite city in Cyrodiil, when I first entered it's walls I had a similar experience. Just imagining the locals retreating into one of the taverns, aching from a presumably hard day's work in the cold, sipping a mead with a hint of honey, and nestling near a hearth possibly with someone they love, makes me want to live there also. Many of my characters have a residence in that town. :foodndrink:

Thank you! Although I know some who are even more hardcoe than me, they even write fanfic :)

Bruma is the only town I truly like. My character http://i1113.photobucket.com/albums/k505/mirocu/Oblivion2011-01-1021-57-14-49.jpg has more houses but they are only for practical purposes. His house in Bravil for instance is mainly used for storing his Shivering Isles stuff. His collection and others can be read about http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1097811-collections-from-shivering-isles/page__view__findpost__p__16039285__fromsearch__1

Alval certainly deserves any misfortune that befalls him! And Lothran does indeed love his snowy northern home. :wavey:

Immersion? Buffy and I are still haunted by an incident that happened hundreds of hours ago in our game. She details it here in a snip from Episode 43 of her Journal -

* * *
Swaths of tall grass were trampled down and streaked with blood. We pressed deeper into the meadow. What manner of atrocity was this!?! Just south of Imperial Isle was a beautiful grassy field where wild horses often frolicked. I had brought Superian here as a treat on our way back to the University, so she could run and play with them.

They were all dead.

I stood in my stirrups, and surveyed the carnage. The horses' wounds revealed they had clearly been killed by tooth or claw. Nausea, anger and fear welled within me. An Imperial Legion rider slowly approached, but I saw no sign of the beast responsible for this slaughter.

Superian's raised head and pricked ears gave but a moment's notice before I heard the unmistakable throaty warning of a big cat. I could see a slight movement of tawny fur in the tall grass. My mare needed no encouragement to wheel and be off in a burst of speed. Judging from the roar behind, I was sure the lion was after us.

The Legion rider took note, and spurred his steed toward us at a dead run. Our two horses thundered past each other, barely an arm's length apart. Superian and I were fleeing danger, as the Legion soldier and his bay charged into it.

Hooves casting a spray of dirt, grass and dust, we rapidly whirled to follow after the soldier on his bay. He had vaulted from his mount, drawn his sword and was now engaged with the mountain lion. Drawing Superian to an abrupt stop, I was on the ground with my bow drawn. The deadly dance between cat and sword was too quick for me to shoot without risk of hitting the soldier.

I silently screamed in frustration as I frantically danced and sidestepped, trying to get a shot. Watching the fight over the tip of my arrow, I was helpless to assist my rescuer. I felt as though a part of my heart was ripped from me as the brave man fell. My first arrow harmlessly hit the dirt as the lion sprang at the Imperial Legion horse. The second shot thudded into the side of the blade-wounded cat, killing it

Like I said, I know those who are far better than me at this :foodndrink:

Every time I read this, I feel bad for the soldier who came to Buffy′s and Superian′s aid

Crazy stories there, OP, Acadian and mirocu. I really can't choose jsut one most immersive moment myself, there's been so many.

there's a couple I can think of. Dyan phor a'Cauz my red-headed paladin was off to Chorrol to deliver the Amulet. She was a brand-new character at that point, and encountered the highwaykhajit who dwells at that fort (forget the name) in between the IC and Chorrol.

The thing is, I was missing the combat of Renee Gade II's game. RG2 had recently died at Umaril's hand, and Dyan was my 2nd try at KotN

Anyways, Dyan refuses to pay the highwaykhajit, and combat ensued. Dyan wasn't very good back then, and to save herself, she ran up to the top of the fort. The highwaykhajiit followed.

she made some sort of jump from one column-top to the next (I think) as the highwaykhajit started swinging his weapon. As she made this jump, the highwaykhajit made an error and stepped too far forward. He fell 3 stories to his death! :lmao:

it was at that moment I think I was really, fully immersed. I'm not psychic, but I got a sense that Dyan's game would be different from RG2. Even though Dyan would eventually follow the same questlines (FG and KotN) as RG2, i knew it would somehow be much different from Renee's game.

Dyan delivered the Amulet, made her historic journey from Chorrol to Anvil, travelling thru the Great Forest and Gold Coast on Prior Marobel's horse. This paint horse lasted well into Dyan's game, too.

The second moment (actually moments..) of deep immersion was near the "end" of Dyan's saga. She met up with the Jemane brothers in Chorrol, who wished she would do something about those ogres at Weatherleah. Dyan took care of these ogres, but refused to take the brothers home. She led them thru much dungeon diving, which was awesomely fun.

Having an actual adventuring party really spiced up her game (which I had left dormant for jeez...something like 4 or 5 months) and I was HOOKED for several more weeks.

At some point, Dyan lost the Jemanes, and couldn't remember where. Before she lost them, Guilbert had taken the Crusader's Sword  The way this worked in RP terms, it almost felt like he stole the sword. What really happened was his previous weapon had broken. Since Dyan had thrown the Sword down before dungeon-diving at some fort, Guilbert merely piekced it up.

After killing Umaril and returning the Knights home to their Priory, Dyan went off looking for the brothers. She planned to go to Weatherleah, maybe they ahd returned there?

But no, she found them at Shardrock Farm. After finding them, Guilbert still had the Sword.

That's where Dyan's story ended. I have no idea if she had to take the sword back by force, or somehow got it back peacefully? No idea. And that's okay, I like the way her story ended.

@ mirouc: Thanks. Buffy learned from that. Well, a little anyway - like how to combine absorb health with paralysis for the next time. And how to jump around right behind a defender healing them (she can only heal by laying on of hands).

@ Renee: Lol. I can just see Dyan jumping around until the cat fell to his death! And lugging the Jemanes around was just D&D priceless! :foodndrink:

Actually, that occurred so long ago that we were pure vanilla at the time. That meadow Buffy describes is
Spoiler
just south of Fatback Cave (at the southern tip of Imperial Isle) across the lake and north of Red Ring Road.
That is the only place in the game where there are wild horses in vanilla. There is often a Legion rider patrolling in the area and sometimes a leveled forest predator (like a mountain lion).

It is not the most immersive of all, but the most of late was just a few nights ago. Nykteria had just completed a long journey from her home of Cadlew Shrine, to Cheydihnal, to Azura's shrine, back to Cheydinhal, to the Imperial City back to Azura's shrine, back to Cheydinhal, and finally back home to Cadlew. By the time she was in Cheydinhal for the 3rd time, she was so terribly homesick. All she wanted to do was get back home. When she finally did, she crawled into bed and slept a good 12 hours, then went up on the roof and just sat for about another 3-4 hours watching the bay. She would not leave for a few days, and then it was only to go across the river to Nenalata, and across the bay to Bravil to sell the loot.

Got another Dyan one, sorry. :guilty: I actually think I made a thread about this one awhile back.

Dyan had made her way into Leyawiin after killing a bunch of Black Bow bandits and other assorted nasties. She went to Greyland (one of her 4 homes), took off her expensive armor and put on some ragged clothing. she always did this before going into any town to show her humility to Cyrodii's peoples.

As a devout chapel goer, Dyan eventually makes her way to chapel for a day of rest and recollection. She puts on a magic ring which casts a halo of light, sits on the pew, and who sits next to her but Countess Alessia Caro. So naturally Dyan strikes up a conversation and wants to know if any good rumors are going on lately... Alessia says

In these difficult times, we must count on persons such as you to secure our borders from bandits and rabble-rousers. We all profit by your lawful pursuit of the unlawful, and we encourage you to attack, burn, loot, and destroy them wherever you can

I pulled that from UESP. :o Anyways, this was the absolute most epic thing she could have possibly said to Dyan. The Countess actually recognized Dyan for her talents, you see, and rewarded her with a short motivational speech.

I don't know what modded games are like, but when a moment like this happens in the vanilla game, it only makes it doubly awesome-epic because such moments are somewhat rare. Usually NPCs say stuff that is just so random as we all know. lol. Not this time.
