What's the Nerevarine Doing?

Post » Wed May 02, 2012 7:57 pm

So the Nerevarine is probably still alive at the time of Skyrim. As well as his immunity to age and disease, he is skilled enough to kill three demigods. He could probably survive two hundred years in Akavir even if every living thing there tried to kill him, as long as he kept some decent armour and Hopesfire and/or Trueflame. So, what is he doing for these two hundred years? Why was he at Akavir in the first place? The Nerevarine is probably the most powerful mortal alive, and my only doubt is the mortal part, as I could easily see him being considered partly divine. And yet he has left Tamriel when it needed him most, and left his One Destiny, which appears to be rulership of Morrowind, behind. What is at Akavir which is so important? My bet is that he ended up conquering it, and will soon use the Akaviri armies to reclaim Morrowind, giving it independence from the Medes and the Argonians. Of course, that probably wouldn't happen, but it would be awesome if it did.

I think he's already in Aetherius -by choice-, having a drink with the folks he killed.

He was written off as so many other Heroes have been. Besides the brilliance of the rumor that he went to Akavir is that it is just a rumor.

My Nerevarine went no where. He stayed and fought for Morrowind but as a single Dunmer he could not do enough. When he tried to rally his people they would not listen. When the Ministry fell he could only watch in helpless rage and agony. When he tried to stave off the Second Arnesian War he could only kill so many Invaders by himself, his people had lost their faith in him after the Red Year. His people forgot how to love and he could not save them no matter how much he tried. It was then that he left. His people had scattered and did not want to listen to him. It was then that Vivec swept him off to Akavir for his role was to learn of Dragons. It was there Vivec left him. He survived there and learned much. He was to come back as someone no one knew and he would be Dragonborn.

Or you can look in my sig for the poem lol.

i bet hes chilling on a tropical island with the other heroes that got shipped off

see it like this: it was your old character, and you can fill in whatever story you find suiting for it

and know this: we won't be seeing them again in the series, at best we'll have a comment somewhere that will simply tell the hero disappeared

This. Even if the Akavir thing is just a rumour, he's been written off, I don't believe he's ever likely to return in an Elder Scrolls game in an official capacity, no matter what you say happened to him you get 90% of the fans in an uproar saying 'that didn't happen to my Nerevarine'.

Seriously, would you want to get involved again? The words "well deserved retirement" come to mind.

My Nerevarine? She went off to Akavir to do something mysterious in the service of Azura, rushed back as soon as she found out about the end of the Septim line to try and rally her people into a new era (as she had been planning since the fall of Dagoth Ur), but only came back to find a land devastated and overrun by Argonians, and an Azura that seems changed, though she remains as devoted to the Queen of Dawn and Dusk as ever. She... hasn't reacted well to all that mess, and it hasn't been good for the state of her mind.

Your Nerevarine? Whatever you want. That's the fun of these games, your character is ultimately your own.

Or their comparing apertures. (If the Nerevarine is a lady)

In addendum: Or even if the Nerevarine -isn't- a lady. This is Vehk/Vivec we're talking about.

Hmm, yes, they could be comparing those other apertures too. Or Maybe comparing a spear and an aperture?

If you played Bloodmoon, there is a no-brainer retirement option even for Dunmer.

Whatever you please. It's your story, just as all have been since Arena. The reason it's a rumor is so that you can just blow it off as one or agree with it as befits your character. Mine died during the Oblivion crisis, valiantly and with no more regrets.

I find all those answers unsatisfactory, but in particular the defeatist attitude that we'll never hear from him/her again has me miffed. Nerevar is immortal. You don't just retcon out immortals. They shouldn't have made him immortal to begin with if they were just going to throw the character into the waste bin.

I don't have any constructive theories to add or monkeytruths to propose. I just wanted to put my foot down and say "nope, i don't like it, i don't like it one bit!"

I don't like it either, but there is a difference between not liking something and refusing to accept it. The Nerevarine is gone. I don't know where, why, how or for how long and neither does anybody else, you can make up your own story there or just accept that you will never find a satisfactory answer.

Of course the alternative is creating a massive fan uproar and trying to convince Beth to make a cannon story for the Nerevarine, but the chances of you succeeding with that are beyond small.

All wrong.

The Nerevarine was last seen alive leaving the South Wall Corner Club, heavily sauced and slurring something about "a really [censored] funny joke that he just had to tell Vivec". But he got lost on the way to the Strider station and wound up in a dead-end alley, cornered by a gaggle of Skooma-junkies asking after drakes. The Incarnate responds with an imperative fetch-off and they draw chitin shivs and ask again with far less candor. Nerevarine says well-now-that-you-put-it-that-way with a feigned quiver of fear and makes for his purse-strings, only to tear the Chrysamere off his back-scarab. He opens with a wide-arc, right-to-left, that misses miserably as the Paladin blade flies from his sweaty, drunken grip. He barely has time to give an oh-bother before the fall on him with shortblades flashing in the pale Masserlight.

He was found the next day by the Balmora Watch, full-rigored and stark-naked atop a rubbish heap with plural chitin shanks buried deep in where his kidneys used to live.

The Nerevarine was certainly alive during the events of Oblivion but I think saying he was alive during the events of Skyrim is a bit of a stretch. Dark Elves begin to physically age at ~300 years, as evidenced by Barenziah in the Tribunal expansion pack for Morrowind. So even if the Nerevarine was still alive during the events of Skyrim, he would most likely be pretty worn, weak, and tired.

And all that's assuming the Nerevarine is a mer. I *think* a dark elf Nerevarine is canon, but from what I know of Bethesda, they try to avoid pinning down a "canon race" for the player as much as possible.
