So, what's the news on H2H in Skyrim?

Post » Mon Sep 27, 2010 9:22 am

Curious because it was kind of a joke in the last game but I feel like there's potential, it's way out of my comfort zone gameplaywise, lol, but if it's awesome I might give it a shot.

Cant say I expect much. If there are any changes, I cant see them being fluid ;dont expect much freedom of movement and choice. I take it the most we could hope for in a game like this are more scripted events like throws

I have a feeling the whole hand to hand combat will be a little bit more downplayed as Skyrim's focal point with combat is the fact that you can easily put something in either hand, whether its a spell or a sword, or two of each.

I've only used the hand to hand skill to clear up that raven rock quest (Morrowind: Bloodmoon) where theres a Nord protester in front of the mine.

No news at all. So far as I know, it hasn't even been confirmed to exist at all, and there's certainly been no announcements about how it might work.

I would really like there to be some love for H2H in skyrim. I've always wanted to play a hand to hand khajiiti assassin character, but the animations in oblivion were LAME.

Hand to Hand may not be a skill. Maybe some perks under 2 handed.

I've gave it a try recently in Oblivion recently. The first few levels it is fairly on par with the other combat skills. However, past lvl 10 it is so under powered, you are pretty much forced to mod it. Fallout had it somewhat right, especially with the deathclaw weapon.

I think it will be in. My guess at how the combats skills will be is like this:

One Handed
Two Handed
Smithing
Block
Heavy Armor
Hand to Hand

Hopefully they expand upon H2H, by adding in a variety of different punches and techniques. Upping the damage would be a plus, and perhaps maybe we could get fist weapons?

Hand to hand is the most useless skill of all,so hopefully it is getting merged with something else because it does not deserve to be one of the 18 skills.
I highly doubt they are going to spend much time on improving it,since they have much bigger and better things to work on.

They ought to really, as I have always wanted to make a Monk-style character who only used fists, but I never got to it because of how inferior Hand-to-Hand is to using a weapon. And, isn't RPG about making the character who you want? What if people want to use their fists, but they can't due to bad mechanics? That's pretty bad juju imo.

Adding kicks and jumps to H2H will return its glory
they tried that on dungeon lords and turned out to be great, atleast in my oppinion
Also combination between H2H and magic like ilussion during combat can be really nice.
Or Telekinesis an H2H thats a great one.

Handwraps like in the game "Dungeons & Dragons online" would be cool if anyone have checked it out.
Its not well made there(in graphic and animation), but the idea of handwraps that could be enchanted and used for improved fist attacks is nice.

Edit: im sorry im alittle off topic - but otherwise the thread will be locked anyway. because you got your answer - no news whatsoever.

Well, we do know that Oblivion had 21 skills and Skyrim will have 18. We also know that Mysticism, Acrobatics, and Athletics were removed. So unless there is a new skill being added (possible, but unlikely, I think) then the Hand To Hand skill will be in the game. It has also been said that every skill will be useful and relevant. (I think we've heard that one before, but I still want to believe it.)

We also know that every skill will have unique Perks, and have seen in past games that Perks can mean special moves. Fallout 3 had Paralyzing Palm, and New Vegas, while not a Bethesda game per se, had a number of special unarmed moves with their own animations, such as the Ranger Takedown and the Scribe Counter. These were fun to use in my experience.

Hopefully Bethesda will take a page from Obsidian's book and make cool moves available via Hand To Hand Perks.

Of course, nothing is confirmed. But this seems reasonable to hope for :)

Fists ARE inferior to weapons. You can play however you want but I personally think you shouldnt be able to clear this game with your fists. That just seems like nonsense.

They should convert hand-to-hand into an "Unarmed" skill of sorts, and expand it so that it has some similitude with the Monks of old in DnD games.

I'm certain it's in the game, as the skills that have been cut have already been revealed (Mysticism, Acrobats, and Athletics). No word yet on any changes or improvements to it.

I will kill a dragon with just my fists. Don't call it crazy or silly. This is a world where swordsmen can slice a man so hard they go flying without cutting them in two. A world where high end weapons are formed by sealing demons into ebony ore. Where strong master level magic spells can not only disintegrate a man's armor and weapons, but charm him into being your best friend at the same time. Or a archer sniping a head of some beast from a distance a sniper would be envious of with the power a cannon would be enveious of.

Why ... in bloody hell, is it so hard to believe that a fist could be honed to be harder than steel and faster than a snake?

In Morrowind you could use H2H as a complement to weapons (knock someone out for stealth or to mug them, but goty got rid of that), in Oblivion it was a substitute and trying to box against someone with a sword probably wont work.

Hand to hand should be about disabling quickly and disarming (depending on what h2h weapon you are using, if any). Your fists would deal less damage that ordinary weapons, be inflict serious stamina damage, flooring the poor sap quickly and knocking away his weapon at higher levels. Specialized weapons turn your fists into sharp blades and solid force of death.

Do such things exist? Honestly though,if they had for example spiked gloves/boots and you were able to punch, kick and throw, then it would be awesome.I just dont see that happening.Hopefully for those more interested in hand to hand I am wrong.
